In South West Gippsland for a week and then I will hit the high seas to battle through icebergs, tidal waves or pirates, heading to Tassie.
I have been at Greens Lake for 10 days and boy was it hot as, even at night.
I left around 1.00pm and it was that hot travelling there were roads in many places that had melted, I have ended up with tar on the front of the Avan, bugga. It was a strange feeling as it felt like you were driving on fly paper or velcro, some roads had trucks spreading fine gravel for KM's to try and help motorists. Did I say it was hot? Well it is and was, just a little cooler here at base camp but the aircon came on as I entered the cave.
I was happy with the way the tug (1998 Toyota Prado) performed in the heat too, hassle free for the 5.5 hour journey.

Doug - hot everywhere in the south I think, we are in southern NSW and very hot today - the tar has melted on the road in the CP where we turned into our spot!! But got the aircon on here - so all good!! Few clouds around tonight, and a bit cooler outside than last night!

Happy travels Doug, I got tar on the front of my Avan camper going up to Ravenshoe on the Development Road, couldn't get it off using anything and everything, further down the track I ended up buying some good quality exterior paint and painting over it, LOL !
Last year I got spattered tar on my Aliner - we drove over the new 'roadworks' area south of Bangalow not long after a 'sealer' spray, the road was still slightly liquid, but the idiots waved the traffic through anyway - pulled up at Evans head and found spotted tar all over the front and part way down the drivers side. Luckily I didn't get any on the tug as I was far enough back not to get the spray from the car in front.
When I got home I went to SuperCheapAuto and got a tube of ArmourAll Bug and Tar Gel - it's a green gel - you wipe it with a soft cloth over the tar spots - leave it for a couple of minutes to penetrate into the tar to soften it, then wipe off with a second cloth - took me around 3-4 hours to get it all off. Best to work in small sections of about one foot square. Front of Aliner is molded fiberglass and the sides coated aluminum composite panel - tar removal job was over six months ago - no evidence of any lingering detrimental effect to either fiberglass or aluminum sides, so it's a thumbs up from me.
Every time I get back from a trip I check all round the van for any new minor tar spots and remove them before the van goes back into undercover storage at the back of the carport.
Regards, Brian

Dougwe
Howdy young fella ,if you want to take of the Tar on your van easy, soak a piece of rag in Diesel I mean plenty of Diesel have it running of the rag and start rubbing the Tar of your van it won't hurt the paint work ,I am an x hotmix carter bitumen in other words we used Diesel to get it of the truck paintwork, after you take the Tar off just wash with detergent, you can also use Citrus liquid but very expensive.

Sorry Doug, I did not realise the front of yours was not vinyl like the older models, that is the one I had and had to paint.
Last year I went through some bitumen roadworks and got bitumen thrown up on the paintwork of my then Ford Transit, didn't want to budge, I went to a panel beater and he recommended I go to Bunnings and buy "Goof Off", worked a treat (for Adhesive & Glue, Oil and Tar and Dried Latex paint). I then washed the are down with soap and water.
