Digital TV

Have just found the govt web site (my switch ) & downloaded the free app to locate the nearest tower etc. They also talk about horizontal & vertical waves . Can anybody tell me is my wineguard aerial suitable for both. We are currently just north of Bundaberg & can only recieve SBS.

Hi Ralph  ..

My Winegard (with the Wingman attachment) is good for Horizontal only.  The Wingman adds an extra set of bars & improves digital reception.

If in an area with vertical wave propagation, I take out one of the pins attaching the head to the supporting arms & swivel the head into the vertical.  Bit of mucking about but it works.

Just replaced the horizontal Winguard copy with a Saturn. Not a perfect solution but much better as it has both horizontal and vertical reception.

Winegard modification to allow the antenna to be set in the Vertical position.  Note:  Ladder needed to get access to the caravan roof.

I have just fitted one of THESE and so far I am very happy with its performance..

You can use your current cable and booster if the booster adapter is 5v.

Ralph, there is a fitting that you can buy and attach to the Wingard, from memory its called a WingsigII , it picks up the vertical signals.

Rather than purchase the wingman to increase Horizontal and the Winsig to increase the vertical signals I purchased Wingards new what I call the bowtie aerial a squarish plastic aerial that replace the original wingard aerial. To me the jury is still out on whether its better on horizontal signals than the original wingard "wings".

If you are about 20kms north of Bundaberg, in the Moore Park Beach area you (and us) have some difficulties with reception, even with large antenna systems.

But still a great area to be in.

We have a 'UFO II' by Triax set up on the van ( a bit like Bob's omni-directional) and it is fantastic! Being 'omni-directional', it is fixed in place, no messing about with winding it up, pointing it in the right direction etc. If there is a digital signal strong enough to pick up, it will. Just make sure ANY antenna set up includes a 12v amplifier also.

Cheers

!UFO Antenna
