After the 2003 fires in NSW/ ACT people blamed trees for the fires, said we should get rid of them all. Well maybe its a good idea not to build in the middle of a forest.... that's a bit like staying out of water where theres sharks.

Politicians by nature, must be seen to be doing something, no matter how stupid.

Why? Because the majority of stupid people vote for them to do something stupid.

We have the same sort of shark baiting system in Qld for years, and I can say that in my time as a pro fisherman ,40 odd years, I don,t think they made any difference at all.They catch about 100 large,2.5m plus,sharks around my island a year , and they haven,t had an attack since 1942, and that was a yank so we won,t count that one.Its just window dressing to make the pollys look good. Also, it costs $350000 ayear, just around Townsville and Magnetic island.A waste of time and money. Bill

Ah, but the really good bit is yet to come.
The activists opposed to the shark hunt say that, among other things, they are going to dive down and take the bait off the hooks on the lines that will be set to catch the sharks.
Almost inevitably, one of the divers will become lunch for a great white. Delicious irony (pun intended).

I vote we leave the sharks alone, cull a few fast food joints, shut down a few bottleshops/ban booze sponsoring of sports, put a bounty on ferals/hoons.............. might make more of a difference!

How come they cull sharks but aren't culling crocodiles since they have been responsible for several injuries or deaths lately???

(no I don't advocate culling crocs either!) disbelief
