Gday...

Apologies all 'round.  cry  Heartening that someone missed the daily update

I decided today to renew my anti-virus program. Apparently, when the download and then up-date was occuring (there is about one minute when there is no anti-virus sortware installed between un-installing the old and installing the new) a big bad Trojan of some sort whacked my pooter. Apparently, this trojan is one that 'resides' on the HDD and has an inbuilt "trigger" which identifies when no anti-virus is installed and launches itself. Completely wrecked heaps of my system files.

The only solution after the pooter tech spent about six hours trying all his magic, was to use the original System Restore discs I created when I bought the pooter in Jan 2011. In the process ALL my data and settings and documents and profile etc etc were wiped from my HDD. Thankfully, I back up to an external HDD so we can reload it all back now the pooter is "restored" - albeit to Jan 2011 'image'. This will take a bit of time I think. cry

Apparently, before I can reload all my stuff from back-up, we will need to run ALL my back-ups through a clever virus checker he has because this Trojan just quite probably may be still residing within a file or files in my back-ups. That would mean reloading all my data may re-introduce the Trojan.

Anyway, after all that long-winded history, this meant I did not get a chance to post my 'today in history'.

I have now got internet working again and my email re-installed. I should obtain the January 09 history and will post it tomorrow. (or today if you are reading this on Thursday )

Cheers - John

At this stage we will accept your apology but in the interest of all, can you lift your game as your posts are interesting. And of all days to lose your bundles - Elvis's birthday. Apart from that, what else did happen on January 8??
