Just wondering what arrangements most people make to deal with the bits and pieces of mail that come through while you're travelling - apart from those lucky enough to have the best option of getting a friend/family member to collect it and send it on that is.

This has been asked numerous times, you can do a search for it.
If you don't have a family member or friend to help out, you can get a post office mail box in your home town or a favourite place and get all your mail sent there. Most companies now you can have your mail like bank statements, phone bills, etc emailed to you. As for your car or van registration, that can now be direct debited from your account. Insurance can be paid monthly or yearly. I can't think of anything else you would need.
But. I guess you will have to go back to the PO box to pick up your mail every three months or so.

We are asking the same question. We are leaving home in Queensland shortly and will be away until early December travelling mostly in WA. so returning every few months is not an option. We had been told that it may be possible to contact the Post Office of the town you will be travelling to and they would hold your mail for up to a week. Does anyone know if that is still correct?
