This year we are seriously looking at going to Tamworth.
I do realize it going to be busy something are up in price, what I am looking for is freed back on the better places to camp and where, how long you go for, what days are better and is there a big open aired concert on.
Some good help full freed back, our van is good for few days off power but can make it go further. Cheers
Hi there , My wife and myself are pretty sure that we are going provided I don't have to go in for my operation which is coming up. From what I can figure it starts on the 10th but the first week is only set up. We are thinking from the 17th to the mdi 20`s maybe, cost is about $130 for the council rate and a further $2 a day for the CMCA site . I think we just turn up and suck it and see.Not quite sure on the power situation but we are fully self contained anyway.
The CMCA site on the sports fields do not have any power....
We have been going for many years now and we have stayed at a few places including there, if you can last without power and accept being ripped off by the council for parking on their sports fields and don't have transport to get around then thats your best bet to start with as you only have to walk over the bridge to lots of the entertainment..
The buskers in the main street (Peel St.) are good value and should be even better this year after last years disaster..
There will be a free concert in the park (opposite side of the bridge and river to the camping) on Friday the 17th starting around 5pm but get there early if you want a good spot..
Prices for everything goes through the roof during the festival so take as much stuff as you can including drinks..Last year bottles of cold water were $3 in Peel St for the first 7 days and then they went down to $1...lol..
The only exception is The Globe Butchery shop at 226 Goonoo Goonoo Rd. South Tamworth. tell 'em Bob sent ya..lol..
Be prepared for some really good entertainment and if you have wheels there is free entertainment all day and night at the Oasis Hotel out of town so long as you like Bush Ballads..
Also I suggest you get a programme book as soon as you get there and have a look at whats on and where and what you want to see..
We are only going for a couple of days from the 22nd and will be stopping out of town as we tow a car with us so we have wheels..
We will be then heading off to Bungandore for their festival the following week which is a very different arrangement where everyone parks in the one place and all the entertainment is close by..
If you need any more help just give me a ring and I will try to put you on the right track (my phone number is on the website below)..
The first year we went we had some friends that helped us find our way around and I can tell you it was really appreciated as it a really BIG festival and depending on what you like it is spread around the place everywhere..

Thanks Vic I dunno why it isn't clickable it is supposed to be...
Try putting the http:// in front of the address - may work but no promises
I did that for him D & D, the link I used has http:// in front of it and it worked, see previous posts.
Bob, I notice your email addy is also not clickable, suggest go to User Details near the top of the page, then Settings, then put a dot in the Advanced Editor, I was having trouble a little while back and once I changed the user settings to that it was ok after that. You only have to do it the once.

Was there in 2000 and had to park in open area other side of overhead rail tracks (42C+), until new friends saved my a spot on river when somebody left. Spent a lot of time sitting in river with dog. Fair walk to bridge from there but staples where available from a stall. Wasn't as dear then to camp for a week, but times change. Was a daily "ice-man" and gold coin donation hot showers. Except for the slow empting of the portable toilets (don't park near them) and generators, I throughly enjoyed the experience, will do again when fit.

No, I'm not busy, I did it right the first time.
Self-powered wheelie walker, soon a power chair (ex. Nomad)
We may even go up a day or 2 earlier now so if you give me a ring before you get there I may be able to put you onto a better parking spot than the oval..
That offer goes for anyone..
But I wont know untill I get there what is available..
I have a feeling I will be able to find you a spot in Tamworth with all facilities but it isn't at a CP..
But anyway there will be somewhere for you even if it is at the sporting fields..
Jennys last shift at the moment is on Sat the 18th so we may get away on Sunday and that will give us a couple of days to see what is available around the place for you..
You might of left it a bit late, We always stay at the showground, haven't been for a few years and have been told it might be closing/moving.
a bit primitive but good value, toilets and showers and an impromptu show almost every night. free bus every half hour at the gates
If you really like good old tradition country Bungandoore is a better festival, all Bush Ballads. Tamworth is a bit head banger now days and a lot of once a year country fans getting drunk take a bit of a shine off things

Yes you are right about the young fans getting drunk but we don't go down the main street of a night for that reason and definitely keep out of the pubs with music to attract the young fans..
Looks like we can all get parking very close to town for around $10 pn/pp... NO Power only showers and toilets.
Just a thought, if you need a powered site the cp at Quirindi is only a 45 minute drive south of Tamworth and is not very expensive. I think around the $23 powered per night.
Quirindi is a nice town with little law and order problems and lots of places to eat.

I used to go there in the 70's when the local Lions Club used to hold annual farm machinery auctions, I used to stay at a pub there and the thing I most remember about it was the inside of the kettle was bright blue from the water.. Ohhhhhh and there is no way you could get the soap to lather up..
I went through there a few years ago and it still looked much the same as it did in the 70's..
.. as Frank says .. it's much prettier than last year ! ..
Road closures are in place now and the busking situation has reverted back to what it was pre last years mess-up .. so buskers are away and doing it early again as they should be able to ..
New elements in Festival management has corrected its errors of last year and it's kicked off well !
I'm fortunately on private property down Manilla Rd near Hallsville and enjoyed the last 2 weeks here ..
Keep the fluids up folks .. top 30's for the next week or so .. but Tamworth is swingin' again !
enjoy ..
