GOLD Coast Mayor Tom Tate is gearing the city up for a new recreational vehicle park in an attempt to capture a slice of potentially $85.5 million in business that bypasses the city each year.
Cr Tate said land had already been identified at Mudgeeraba for the park, which could offer cheap daily rates to grey nomads in exchange for basic facilities.
"This is a huge growth market and we are missing out on it," he said.
"The RV market is expected to grow by 30 per cent in the next five years and the new baby boomer market is expected to spend more than $1000 a week. The Gold Coast City Council will next year explore plans to enhance the grey nomad market under its Destination Plan 2020."

I wish I was one of those grey nomads with $1000 a week t spend, in fact if I did I would never free camp
Sounds like the camp nominated in Wikicamps where I stayed last year, Excerpts from my blog are posted.
Today Saturday and I am in the Hinterland Regional Park a Wiki location near Mudgeereba, it is nominated as a 24hr overnighter but it has no usual camping area only white markers near the toilets. I don't expect to have any company tonight but there are good facilities, running water, flushing toilets, tables and seats under cover, rubbish removal and electric barbecues
Wouldn't get to excited about it . If you know where the Mudgeeraba Police Station is , it's in the park next to it about 50mtrs from the M1.Presently a car park used by workers car pooling travelling to work in Brisbane. It is surrounded by 2 main arterial roads , bring your earplugs. Walking distance to shops the only advantage , shouldn't be any theft being that close to the police station. They should make it free with a limit on stay . Don't shoot me I'm only the messenger , Information told to me by a Council Employee involved with the Tourist Parks , some weeks ago .
