5th Wheeler Rail Kits and hitch fitting.

Recently changed tow vehicle for our Ultima 27 foot 5th Wheeler. Sold our D-Max and purchased a 2013 Mazda BT50 dual cab. Having problems finding an installer in Perth area.

Looking at Hayman Reese rails and R16 or R16 Slider hitch. Any advice on which hitch and known installers would be appreciated. Just returned from 4 month trip through Vic and central NSW and decided to upgrade tow vehicle for extra power.

Hello Topender,

My suggestion would be to contact Michael Cameron (Cameron caravans - Albany) who distributed Ultimas and may know just who you might need. I am currently towing an Ultima Express with a Ford PX Ranger on my way home to Perth (typing this in Alice) after three months on the road.

Hope this helps.

Either what TC69 said or contact Tim at Caravanland, in Perth. Jayco do a fifth wheeler so he should know who can fit. Also try Hayman Reese.

Thanks for info. Have already spoken to Camerons and Haymen Reese who have put me onto a couple of people in Perth but they don't appear interested. Will keep plugging away.

Again thanks for info. With help from Hayman Reese in Sydney I have this morning ordered the rail kit and R16 hitch and a dealer in Welshpool will instal.

A query TC69 - With your Ranger, was there any height issues towing the Ultima. As the BT50 is the same body, I'm interested to know of any issues.

Hi Topender,

Apologies for the delay in replying - we have been out of mobile range for a few days.
No, no height issues at all with the Ranger/Ultima combination.

I have the standard R16 hitch fitted, but since your post, have been in contact with Hayman Reese regarding the Slider version of the R16 and will probably retrofit in the New Year.

What got you thinking that there was a height issue?

Thanks TC 69. Sold our D Max after finding it wanting in power through the hills of SA and NSW. Looked at Ranger/BT50 for torque and comfort. Checked it out against my Ultima and thought my be high. Having rail kit and R16 fitted in the new year. Looked at the R16 Slider but a delay in delivery and appears R16 does the job. All the best with your travels and we may meet on the road

Also Thunderbird 69, if it is of any help. When I selected the BT50 (only because they had a special deal going  and Ford would not match it) I contacted Hayman Reese, who were very helpful. I foun d a fellow who stock Hayman Reese gear and worked with him and the com pany to ensure all would be right. I spoke to Hayman Reese to tell them I already had a Euro hitch and as such would only require the rail kit for the ute. They did advise me they only sell the rail kits and hitch together and will not separate. Interesting but explained due to engineering specs.
