I found earlier in the year before I started doing alternative camping there was only about $5.00 difference between a power and un power site and starting around $20.00 up, depending on location of CVP, i.e. Coastal areas are much higher than small out of the way towns. If I want a CVP I usually check smaller towns first close to where I need. They are usually friendlier too.

We find in general, on average, the difference between a powered site and an unpowered one is about $5. That's pretty much the same whether they charge $50 or $20 per night. But unpowered sites aren't all lined up in rows and theres usually a camp kitchen or at least a communal BBQ, so we choose that.

Alternative Camping is "Free" or "Low Cost" i.e. Gold coin donation or similar.
In my opinion C41 you will pay more anywhere near water. Biggest problem for me is, I prefer being near water than inland, bugga.
There are many lakes and dams that have Free camping or similar.
Can I suggest you get a copy of "Camps Australia Wide" current edition is #7. You could also download "Wiki Camps" onto your poota, that's good too and growing with information all the time.
Edit....Sorry forgot to say there is a "Caravan Parks Australia Wide" as well. I find that good too when Looking for a CVP.

Me too!! Water based --like lotsa Murray River spots and Gerty Dancer talked on camp kitchens
Stayed a while back in one a kilometer walk into Beechworth with gr8 kitchen
Another that comes to mind a similar CP walking distance from Cooma centre
A good kitchen there too & stayed three nights ----every tent camper group came up
Cooking, chatting with beer/wine/bourbon were pleasent nights
Supermarket/pub close by
Dougwe..1st time I hv read that term I like it going to adopt it .from now on in my travels and the conversation is cp.s it will be ..ALTERNITIVE. CAMPING!! For me cya
I always ask what the price difference is......
I am set up to not rely on mains electricity
a lot of the time there is only $2-5 difference between powered or unpowered, if this is the case i opt to charge everything up
it pays to ask the question i have found occasionally a $15 difference between power or not

I have found that the unpowered sites are often in a better, less formal, and nicer section of the parks. Often further away from facilities in some parks. Plenty of exercise to go to the loo or showers.
The difference in powered or unpowered used to be about $3 but not any more since power has risen in price.
