Aerial access

Is there a simple way of determining where to drill the hole in the van wall without hitting some vital part, especially the electric wiring. Thanks for any advice.

 Just a little more info...

What are you exactly trying to do???

Drill through both sheets of you van???? motorhome??????

Or pick up a coax inside the walls...

I have a power detector pen and a stud finder so I know exactly where to drill within the area I want to drill...

You could also put a piece of rubber tube on your drill so it only cuts through the single wall first and then you can go further..

I want to drill a hole through the wall of my caravan to fit one of those access holes for my aerial lead.

Check both sides of where you want the hole to make sure there isn't a powerpoint or light switch on the inside..
locate the vertical stud nearest to where you want it if there is one..then drill a very small hole on the inside and push a plastic knitting needle through till it touches the other side..
If there is nothing there then drill a 6mm hole with a piece of plastic tube on the drill to stop it going too far you should find there is Styrofoam there if there is just continue drilling till you are through the other side ..

Now all you have to do is make up your double sided adapter and fit it..
