Gold fossicking in NSW

G'day Keiron, might I suggest you direct your question to a gold forum to which I belong as it's dedicated to answering questions similar to yours by prospectors who work those areas and all over Australia in fact......Gold Detecting & Prospecting Forum golddetecting.4umer.net/

Registration is free and similar to this forum they are like minded folk who really want to support each other..Goldfields all over Australia are discussed at length....there is a search function on that site and more often than not your questions have already been posed by someone else and expanded upon....a quick search of Oberon displayed several threads and one old gold map is shown of the area.....if you raise specific question I'm certain many prospectors will respond short of giving you their Co-ords of the spots where they have found nuggets....
About 100 of us Forum members/prospectors have met annually for the last three years at the Laanecoorie Lakeside Caravan Park in the heart of the Victorian Golden Triangle...and swap detector information and 'show and tell' our nuggets... I take a magnifying glass for my finds....Lol......

I suggest you wont make your fortune as such anywhere on the Eastern seaboard and if you want to find a large retirement nugget with your name on it you still have to 'Go West Young Man'....to Western Australia...my next prospecting trip is north of Kalgoorlie....and I'm based in Eaglehawk Vic. at the moment..
As far as winning Saturday Lotto the odds are the same as someone opening the Sydney phone book and finding one name, closing it again and telling you to choose one name only from the whole book..and you have to choose the very same name/number!...sort of puts it all into perspective.....the odds of finding a nugget are far better.....but size does matter....!..currently US$1,450 troy Oz....there are 31.1 grams to the troy Oz....gold is always weighed/sold in Troy ounces...and many tenderfoot's don't realize that.....good luck...
I'm Larry303 on that gold site....Hoo Roo

Hi fellow Nomads.

I am wanting to do a bit of Gold panning / fossicking, probably around Oberon in NSW, and am wondering if anyone of you may have done it and can offer any clues. Things like locations to camp, access for caravans, etc.

Finally I guess, should one even bother looking for his fortune there, or just buy a lotto ticket?? Cheers to all. KB

Another benefit is being out in the wonderful bush, even if you don't strike it big time.

Fossicking is something we plan to try when we finally retire full time so keep us posted on how you go.

Cheers and good luck.

South of Oberon you will find a place called Back Springs - check out Saphire forest road no need to tell you what you may find. Gold fossicking you should try Sofala or Hill End.
