I am also interested in getting a monitor..

I do know one thing and that is a mate of mine has one that was supposed to monitor all 6 tyres on his bus but he still had a tyre go flat and get wrecked as the monitor never warned him..
I think he paid around $300/400 for it

Okkk and if you fit them you need to fit "T" pieces first so you can pump up your tyres without removing the sender unit..

I was thinking of getting one of these for the 4WD.

They are not a cheap thing to purchase or install. I brought a Tigerz11 tyre deflating/pressure gauge - works wonders, cost 20 bucks!
Unless you are constantly changing your tyre pressures as you would in a 4WD to cater for different surfaces, such as rock, mud, sand and so on - I am not sure if they would be of a real benefit or just a fancy 'look at me I have this' gizmo.

To negate forgetting to increase tyre pressure after I drop them, when I do drop the pressure I have this little flashing LED on the console that I turn on once I drop the tyre pressure, just as a reminder to put them back up again when I am on a hard surface.

I have been considering / investigating these units for a while, I have not bought one yet, but am getting closer. So far I have identified a couple of things to look out for:

1. The kits that are sold typically have four or six senders, and many of the consoles only monitor four tyres. I figure I need at least 10 tyres to do the job properly (4 + spare o tug, and 4 + spare on van), so I will be looking for a unit that can monitor at least ten tyres.

2. Tho sender units come in a couple of different forms, some are replacement valve stems thus the tyre would have to be popped of the bead to fit them. Others are straight caps, and yet more fit under the cap, and can be left in place when you adjust the pressure.

3. Some units have very limited range, and would not be able to monitor the tyres on the van.

4. Look also at the cost of the replacement senders, they appear to vary wildly.

Hope this helps you make your decision, and once you do I would love to hear your feedback.

This is my current preferred, but am a little concerned by the price of the sensors.

They look like they would do your job if you want to monitor every tyre in your rig..

As we have a duels on the back axle of the motorhome they are the only tyres I am interested in keeping a close eye on as any one of the 4 tyres can go flat without any real difference to the handling of the vehicle it is only when it starts to come to piece that you notice it.. I do a tap check on the duels daily but you can get a puncture during the day and not know it until it is too late..

Thanks everyone,

I am looking to monitor all 10 tyres on my car and caravan plus the spares. This unit is supposed to do this and you can purchase a version that suits the number of tyres you wish to monitor.
The one I am looking at is the kit to monitor 10 tyres and the retail price is around $699.00 I have yet to ask if they do a seniors discount.

The senders are attached to the valve stem just like a valve cap.

I like this set up because the monitor is compact and will attach to a sunvisor.

might have to ask in a wider circle if anyone is actually using one.

I have the set up that Plendo gives you the link to. This is my second TPMS the first had the sensors inside the tyre and I had continuing problems with lost signals in the end sent the item back got a refund and brought the one Plendo talks about. Have done about 25,000km and no problems. It gives me a nice feeling to know that if I have a flat I will know about it. I had a flat once and only new about when I looked in the mirrow and saw all this smoke coming out the side of the van let me tell you its not a nice feeling.

There was a tms on my 4wd when I bought it, it doesn't say what brand it is ,it wasn't working when I got the 4wd so had a bit of a fiddle and got it going,it has a little small monitor with 4 lights in it when you push the button it gives you tyre pressure and tyre temperture and indicates which wheel by a light if the pressure drops below 20lbs an alarm goes off and the tyre that is down in pressure the light flashes red to indicate which tyre, the sensors are fitted on the inside of the tyres, it has saved me one tyre so far, well worth having, tyres aren't cheep.

I have the 8 tyre version "www.tpms.com.au/caravans-motorhomes-rv-tyre-pressure-monitors-tpms/" it allows separate pressures for each axle so I have different settings for front wheel to the rear duals and then different again for the trailer wheels. Ensure the set you buy can cover the pressures you use. The cheap ones got to 60PSI where the one I have goes to about 160PSI I think

You get a constant readout so you can actually watch the tyre pressures increase as the tyres heat up and see the difference between the inner and outer on your duals, if a tyre drops below the preset it gives an audible and visual warning which continues till it is fixed.

I lost a tyre on my trailer last year, before getting the monitor, and by the time I got a new wheel and tyre as well as hubs etc one wheel cost nearly as much as the tyredog. I ground the wheel down to the hub and even got rid of the brake surface on the rim.

Best investment I have made in a long time as I can constantly monitor the tyre pressures with a quick glance.

The other day the trailer tyre pressure increased and I stopped and found the hand brake had come on as I did not throw the handle back over as I normally did.

Regards
Brian
