Well here is another side of the story. We have started emailing councils when we come across a park or rest area that is very well presented, clean and tidy. I think it's just as important to state your views in both sides of the stories. It pays off from both sides

Sorry for posting this in two sections, just would like as many folks to read. below is a post I made in November on my shake down to SA Vic NSW. After reading I hope if GN are not happy with a situation they come across they to take the time to write to the dept responsible for the decisions making that affect our pockets and traveling comforts, maybe and just may be if these people receive enough one on one emails they may just do the job their community elected them for and that's to make their community flourish in this HARD times.

Sorry folks but this is not a recommendation.
HORSHAM CARAVAN PARK Firebrace St Horsham, this was recommended to us by the local tourist information centre. It was the most expensive $35.00 per night, It would have to be the filthest shower block I have ever seen, soap scum was so thick on floors & walls, I like to shower every day but this morn I realy had to force myself to have one. most sites were dirt very little grass around. Sorry to rabbit on but just wish to advise my fellow travellers. I will be writting to the local council.Horsham is abeautiful town very friendly people even the lady who booked us into the park but council should have a good look at it as it mars the beauty of the river and the town.
Rant over
PLEASE READ below a response I received from Horsham Council.
Dear Bob
Thanks you for the information and comments pasted on The Grey Nomad forum. I have personally discussed your concerns with the Horsham Caravan Park management team and had the Environmental Health Officer inspect the amenities at the park and advise on remedying the soap scum issue. The park is currently undergoing a Redevelopment Vision Planning project which as you commented will make it the jewel in our town. I would hope that next time you are past our way you will notice and appreciate an upgraded facility situated on the banks of the Wimmera River.
We appreciate you taking the time to advise us of your concerns regarding the Horsham Caravan Park, this is not always the case as some people just post and then it is difficult to resolve issues if we are unaware of them.
Again thanks for your comments and enjoy your travels.
Regards,
Colin Kemp Economic & Business Development Manager P.O. Box 511, Horsham, Victoria 3402 Colin.Kemp@hrcc.vic.gov.au Tel (03) 53829 783
Good on you, Bobstar! Too often things never get done because too many people accept the conditions without comment so management think everything is ok.
Cheers

Hmmm, have to say I've got more to do in my life than get into conflict with regional councils.
I f we have a bad experience the solution is simple, don't return.
Passive / aggressive responses such as this don't fix anything nor does bitching on this site about the lousey service or the poor condition of facilities only by taking positive action such as that taken by Bobstar will things improve. Good on you, it must be satisfying to get such a positive response.
10 marks to Bobstar52 - complain or compliment, both are of equal value. I've just sent a negative comment to a well known restaurant in my area due to Fawlty Towers treatment. Tell the people in charge first and give them the chance to rectify or ignore. They bear the consequences, we can move on.
Poor attitudes and facilities are self regulating, customers have a bad experience, they don't return and pass the information on to others, the process snowballs very quickly, as business declines it doesn't take long for the operators to feel the pinch, decision time comes, sell, close down or if its not too late make some major changes to attitudes and customer facilities, the third being the most difficult.
There will always be somewhere to move on to, if there is a demand, when one business fails, another will step into the breach.
I also agree that it's good to give either brickbats or bouquet as appropriate. The former puts the operator or council on notice and gives an opportunity to fix problems, and the latter let's good ones know they're appreciated. I think all providers should be encouraged to check the comments on Wiki camps, it's a quick, easy and very public way to have your say about facilities.

I thinks you are missing the point here,,,,,, Bobstar has taken positive action that will PROBABLY SAVE MANY OF US FROM facing the same problems he had,,, whilst your inaction philosophy would continue to allow others to suffer. The well know Aussie way eh,,,, leave it to someone else maybe, sometime.
Well done Bobstar.

G'Day Baz, nope not missing the point at all, I suspect whats happening is rather than possessing an ability to enjoy the many positives in life, we are turning into a nation of whingers, always on the lookout for the next problem to beat the drum about.
Aussies have historically possessed an ability to get things done under adverse conditions and not complain, this quality is becoming rarer, the first thing we seem to do now when faced with adversity is to circle the wagons and sook up.
The fact of the matter is we have never had it so good, in the words of the Python crew.
Well done Bobstar. As another has said 'bouquets and brickbats' bring attention to a problem or otherwise. Next time the place will be better for everyone.

Sorry you have definitely missed the point - agin. The apathetic approach you espouse to (ie do nothing,,, is the NOT the Aussie way as you rightly point out, we should do something),, but in the meantime many true Aussies may unwittingly stay there in less than adequate facilities,,, remember we pay for the facilities.
We have such poor polititians in country because of apathy (and I plead guilty here).
