Kokerbin Rock WA

 I believe it was mostly due to pressure from locals stating it was a sacred site and they didn't want people camping there or climbing the rock......this extract from another forum regards comments by a Bruce Rock Council meeting;

"After consultation with Indigenous groups (there are two groups being involved, these are
the Beladong (from Quairading & Kellerberrin) and Njaki Njaki (people from Merredin).
On the rock there sensitive areas where the indigenous would prefer white people didnt go
and the fact that it is insensitive to drive on the Rock."

Apparently white families have been driving to the top of the rock since white settlement.   Roads on the rock have now been closed and some walking trails that the locals consider sacred and culturally sensitive.   Last time I was there the only official track was around the base at a lower level, none allowed to the summit that I could find.

This camp site is now just a day rest area. The road around the rock is closed - well - there is a sign saying private road - no entry!

BUT

 - there is a brand new camp site at Kwolyin - at the start  of the road to the rock. A new toilet block with kitchen, covered picnic areas, gas BBQ, plenty of caravan sites around the ring road, a group area etc. Coming from Bruce Rock take the road just past the church, or from the west then turn into Kwolyin Street. There is a brown sign pointing to the road - over a new culvert. Wind your way in to the camp groundsmile

Thanks for the feedback on the new campsite Spida, might be heading that way one day.

Our next trip will be down south in about a weeks time or so, Dryandra Forrest camping area for starters or maybe Yorningup (both in camps book).  Which way are you headed next ????

It's a shame that Kokerbin Rock is closed to camping, but understandable really. We stayed there twice when we were in WA and really enjoyed it, but there was a lot of rubbish left around the place.

Having the new camp at Kwolyin is a great initiative and will allow an easy day trip to the Rock.
