Jacarandas anyone?

In spring, a young man's fancy turns to jacarandas, right? Or have I forgotten something? Anyway, I drove south over the Martin Bridge, Taree, earlier today and luckily I had my little Fuji compact with me, so I took some piccies. A sample is below. Lovely Gary, always a picture, good time to be on Sydney Harbour...NSW at Jacaranda time, they are scattered where ever you look.

Went to Grafton a couple of years ago, hoping to see very early Jacarandas, in school holidays, still working then, well I struggled to find a couple of odd blossoms in the park,

BUT there were imitation yellow ones flowering, don't know what they were but looked good, sorry to miss the jacarandas though.

 Gee Robyn, You came at the wrong time of the year, this week Grafton is 100% covered in Jacca flowers, and infact we also have a white Jacca tree in flower in the main street just near the entrance to the showgrounds..

Thanks, Jacaranda lovers. I went back there again today but this time I took the Nikon DSLR with me and got a bit arty. Then I chose the best of the new pics and put them in a second photo album which you can see by clicking here.

Did the jacarandas in Grafton come out earlier than usual because of the warmer weather. Will they still be good for the festival? Ours on the Far South Coast are still only just breaking out. Cooler nights I guess.
Our new daughter-in-law said her mother thinks they are good trees in someone else's garden - she doesn't know what she's missing. A beautiful tree.

They really are end of October and into November flowering, that's why I lucked out as it was school holidays and a month earlier, and hoped that north of Sydney would flower early.

Pictures are just great Gary, a real treat to enjoy. I remember when they started to sell the white one, in amongst a sea of jacaranda blue a pure white would be shockingly gorgeous.

Thanks again, y'all. It's nice to know others share my interest in such gifts from naycha. But there's a shot of single deep red flower in there and I don't have a clue what it is. It's just one tree amongst all the jacas. It doesn't have any more than half a dozen blooms, but the blooms are spectacular. Anyone know what it is?

Happy photographing, Barina. It's a lotta fun but also frustrating getting the light right. Early morning and late afternoon light is softer and much more photo friendly. Those pics were taken early afternoon when the light was a bit harsh so I had to compromise somewhat.

Common name: C-o-c-kspur Coral Tree.
Gorgeous red.

Beautiful Garry. Makes me nostalgic for the time I lived in Grafton. Been germinating the seeds ever since and still trying to persuade the poor things to grow in the acid that passes for soil around here. Gonna try planting in a section of hollow log on top of the soil next (like a pot without a bottom). One of the neighbors has done that successfully. He reckons by the time the tree/plant reaches the soil level it is strong enough to "acclimatise". I'll win eventuallybiggrin
