Just been having a look at the upgrade and their video says the start button is back when it is not, well not the old start button we are all used to, I'll stick with ClassicShell as my start button, not sure I will install Win 8.1 at this time, will await a few more feeddback before I dip my toes into the water.

Hi Guys,

Anybody done the upgrade yet?

How did the upgrade go on your system?

This upgrade is for Win 8 to Win 8.1 only

bill12, have you tried ClassicShell as your start menu, I suspect you miss the old start button, also with CS you do not use the Win 8 start icon screen, go straight into your desktop as before with Win 7

Got classic shell, but all my old versions of ms programs don,t work on win 8. Its a scam by Bill Gates to make you buy new versions, even though you paid big $$$$ for the old ones. Also, older version files don,t work on win 8. Give me win 7 anyday. Bill

Bill, there are a few programs that do not work, in regards to the ones you have, have you contacted the program site to see if they have an update to Win 8?

most sites do have updates.

Can't help laugh & be sad at the same time.

Hylda's computer has had Windows 7 on it for 3 years now but 6 months ago it suddenly decided to come up with 'This Windows is not a genuine version' notice so every half an hour or so a big box comes up stopping whatever she is doing and tells her that. This, mind you, is after she paid the $100 or so 3 years ago to buy it new. No amount of phoning and pleading with Microsoft makes any difference so she will have to fork out another $100 for a new operating system.

Now, the funny, sad part is I use an Apple Mac computer and the latest, brand new operating system (and it isn't just an upgrade of the present operating system) Apple are giving away for FREE. I just went tot he Apple site and downloaded it.

The old operating system cost me the princely sum of, I think $30 so free is even better.

Why couldn't Windows do something like that?

Helena, one is Mr Apple system and the other is Mr Windows system. I have the iPad and the built in keyboard is very annoying but I don't want to lug around the keyboard attachment so spose I just have to live with it. Mr Apple costs more.

Having said all that though, I do like my iPad (and iPhone) I use them more than my LapTop now.

Helena, I went for the IPad mini. To me its not that much smaller than the normal Ipad but easier to lug around. My son disagrees with me, so its personal preference.I also went the wifi+cellular option so I can link to the net when away from home. Kathy went for the Nexus tablet, she's not very happy with it but uses it mainly to play games and as an ereader.

I don't know the answer to what's best. I like android, got a Motorola Xoom 10in and a Nexus 7in and love the Nexus. I don't have an Ipad to compare.

I think you need to weigh up what you want to use it for and check the reviews I guess.

I hate Win8 with a vengeance! Nothing but problems and using Classic Shell. Have been thinking seriously of buying Win7 and starting fresh. Mate tells me that bloke that designed Win8 was sacked...I would have put the drongo in the stocks and thrown rotten tomatoes at him.

a lot of people feel the same way, just had a look on eBay for Win 7 prices and they do not seem to be dropping so 7 is still alive, also some people have gone for Apple mac systems.

up grade later on..

FSX is better on Win 7, not stable on Win 8, or so the feedback goes.

It seems every second new programme is the same. Everyone loved XP, then Vista was lots of problems, everyone loves Windows 7 now Windows 8 is problems. Wonder why? Is it that we buy it before the problems are fixed?
