Aldi Mob

I have to get a new Mob plan when I get back to Aus, ( three has finished). I'm considering Aldi  I see they use the Telstra network too. Any other GNs on this network

G'day John

I use Aldi and so far so good
the only thing is to make sure your phone is a " nextG " one
than it would be working at most places in Australia

Cheers John

I too bought a prepaid Aldi sim card and it worked a treat in the phone but when I put it in my Telstra 3g broadband modem, it worked O.K. for a month or two and then started to use data in an accellerated rate, I mean 2-300MB in a matter of minutes while I was checking emails only, I couldn't figure out what was going on, so I called AlDi support, they told me that they don't support the broadband with Telstra modem in a computer, I got someone in Indonesia who's accent I couldn't understand, I repeatedly asked for a supervisor to talk to about it but was told that the supervisor had just told him what he told me, I'm back with Telstra again!!!!!!!!!! bugger!!!!!!!!

I've been with Amaysim for over 2 years now - you can't beat 12c a minute and no flagfall for calls. On the pay as you go plan you give them $20 and it expires after 3 months and then you can roll it over. Operates under the Optus 3G network which is improving all the time. For data I have a separate Amaysim sim - $10 for 1GB and use an Optus USB modem from Ebay.
Best thing is no lock in contracts and it's Australian.
Good Luck.

Hi I have been using Aldi prepaid for a couple of months, very happy with the performance for the price (no 4g ), but I have just recharged and they have dropped the data allowance to 2.5gig instead of 5. Still good value I suppose but a little notice would have been nice.

We had an Amaysim card while in Tassie  earlier this year the unlimited calls were great if you could get coverage but the data was so sloooooow it was unusable they give you lots of gig but you couldn't use it if you tried its so slow.

Back to Telstra for us Iphone tethered to the IPad work for us

We use both,Amaysim not so good on the Optus network here at home, very low signal

Aldi,on the Telstra Network is full Strength,at home

Both Companies have the same call charges,IE 12c /minute,or part thereof

Amaysim top ups last 3 Months

Aldi's good for 12 Months.

Amaysim's Customer service is very good

Many thanks for the response to my question,  have also checked reviews online, seems they both have issues, Aldi appears though to come out on top.

Hi John,

If you have a phone (or buy one that is compatible with the 850mhz-2100mhz frequency I would recommend you consider looking ay what Boost offer.

They have a few things going for them and one of those things is they are owned by Telstra and therefore get better access to the telstra network than Aldi who only have access to telstra's wholesale network.

We use their $39.95 pm unlimited plan that gives us unlimited calls as Texts to landlines and mobiles and also 3gig of data.

There is some good reading on the Whirlpool Forums regarding both ISP's

We were with Amaysim and i agree their customer service is very good unfortunately they use the Optus network and there are lots of places around this big country that optus don't reach.

The other thing is that if you have a phone on the 3g 900mhz-2100mhz frequency then you have no choice but to run with an Optus reseller..

If you have a phone on the 3g 850mhz - 2100mhz frequency you can run with a reseller using the Telstra network

All phones work ok in the BIG Cities where both suppliers use the 2100mhz frequency but once you get away from the city Optus use 900mhz and Telstra use 850mhz so in the country you need a phone with the right  frequency for your supplier.

hako ...  I don't mean to be picky mate,  but ...

From the Optus Website ...

"Optus became a wholly-owned subsidiary of SingTel on 30 August 2001 and was listed on the Australian Stock Exchange on 10 September 2001."

If you want to drill back on SingTel corporate structure you will see the heavy involvement of the Singapore Govt.  Last time I looked there were Singapore Govt. Ministers on the various boards.

So to the extent that it is listed on the Aussie Stock exchange it, like Telstra (with the big Australian Future Fund Telstra holdings) is Australian.  Or for that matter like other Australian Stock Exchange listed entities.

Of course it all gets rather murky as you investigate the 'ownership' of the wholesaler of the Aldi communications offer.

Having said that there are lots of difficult to compare quality & cost choices out there.  No doubt Amaysim & Optus are well worth considering as you have found.

Seems like I'm getting this sorted, if I go with the Aldi prepaid I need an unlocked Mob. I see Allphones have the LG Optimus l7II for $245, that looks good to me now.

had the same problem with Aldi SIM card. Was fine for a couple of months and then chewed thru 7gb data in 10 days!! Never used that much data before and certainly not changed the content I browse or download. rang Aldi rep after trying to download more data to use but apparently can only top up data once in a month. When I told them I was using phone data to tether my iPad or computer to I was told this is against their user regulations and I am not allowed to do this. They also sent me an email that reprimanded me and warned me if I breached these conditions a 2nd time (using all data allowance for one month) that my account would be suspended! WTH!! I didn't give them a chance to do that and terminated my Aldi prepay and went back to Telstra.

interesting tho...I am still using a lot of data on Telstra that I haven't before. I did note somewhere on the Internet that the new iPhone iOS 7 is using more data than previous operating systems so maybe that is the reason I used so much data in the last month...I updated to iOS 7 not that long ago! Hmmmm...going to get a wifi dongle and use that for data and stick with Telstra prepay just for text and phone calls.

These posts sure are a help, when I return in December I will check out the Aldi phones too, I do though use Telstra prepaid broadband and have been  for 3 years, so far has been great,  service in some really remote areas. So after reading other posts will probably stick with Telstra for internet. My average use being 2-3 gigs per month.

Once again many thanks for the replies to my question.

If you have a locked phone there is a site that will sell you the unlock codes for your phone might be cheaper than buying a new phone
we have just come back from the mainland and ALDI never let us down
