Left Broken Hill today after a 5 day stop over. Had a chance to have a look around with a mixed bag of good and not so.
in the main, ok but is looking a bit on the tired side but I think as some mentioned the other day it's a un employment issue that goes with mining towns. Still worth the stop and we are one doing a slow crawl across NSW via places like Cobar, Bourke, Walgett, Moree, Glen Innnes, Grafton and then into the Btron Bay area to catch up with family. We will stop at a camp site #224 for a few days to match up our time with one of Cheryl's sisters arriving also at Byron Bay. Actually we will be in Suffolk Park but that's close enough. We will leave the van at the Mullumbimby Showground and come back to that and the stay for an extra week or two. Should start heading South after a couple of weeks. So if you are coming thru the areas that I just mentioned, drop a line and we will see if we can hook up
anyway, take on the road and enjoy

Is the big garden chair up the top of the hill? also the carvings?
We were there years ago and really enjoyed it, even though the drought was on and when we commented on the smell in the water the reply was "it was probably the dead kangaroo in it"
Yea both those items are still there. Got a couple of good shots of the chair with Cheryl seated upon it. The smell just comes and goes but not too bad. Had a good look over Pro Harts place as well.
all in all, had a good time but moving on now

Brian - check on this forum in the General section - someone wrote that the Mullumbimby showgroounds in closed to camping - might be worth doing a search for the post - it was dated 10 October 2013. Apparently you can stay at the Leagues club.

I like broken hill, my mum and dad actually met at a nurses dance there in the late 40's
so a bit of history there for me..
also I like going out to the little town where the mad max museum is there,
and the big pub there too pretty good..
Thanks Jules, made a quick phone call and while I did not get to talk with the current caretaker I did get to talk to the previous one ( mainly because they have not changed the phone number yet) and as she said it it currently closed but no-one seems to know for how long, not even the council. We'll these things just go around and around don't they. Now we need to find where to park the can for a couple of weeks without having to pay power and water, etc as we won't be living in it for about 10 days. need to start looking into that now.
