hi every one, our 105ah batteries are 3 years old and getting wornout, our son has 150ah batteries he wants to unload, will these be a problem to my charging etc.
we have 2 x 80watt fixed panels and charge with our ivecco 50c18.
battery should not be a problem but the thing with deep cycle the bigger the amp compacity the longer it takes to charge. 2x 100amp seems to be the go with a lot off greynomads ,

The extra amps will not go astray do you have a 12v DC-DC charger in the iveco?
Just having the extra batteries connected to the truck systen via an isolator switch will not fully charge any battery. The DC system is very good, just fitted two into my truck. Had them in the cruiser before , work very well.

How do you know the batteries are "Worn Out" ? The secret to long battery life is to keep them fully charged. While your van is not being used, the solar panels should keep them charged. The Alternator on the Iveco engine will also charge the batteries while you are driving, if you have your house batteries and engine battery connected positive terminal to positive and all batteries connected to the vehicle frame from the negative terminal. Also handy to have a 240 volt charger connected into the system as this provides a good charge rate while plugged into 240 volt power. I assume we are talking about a motorhome and not a caravan and car.

had system checked 2 months ago, new regulator, rewired with a heavier wire from ivecco to motohome, we have noticed we are not holding charge as long as we used to.
our 3yo sunliner motorhome has 51000 ks on it, so i believe we have had the best of the batteries. we do have all the usual features 240volt charger and still not holding power to run the fridge on dc for more than 1/2 hour after pulling up.

If your fridge is a 12v fridge and you are leaving it connected to the batteries when the motor is not running then it is probably the fridge that has killed your batteries as it would have flattened your batteries past the accepted level.
Absorption fridges are not designed to run off batteries and their cutoff is usually too low for the batteries. Before the fridge cuts off on low voltage your batteries are well and truly FLAT.
Suggest if this is the way your MH is set up that you look for a relay etc to cut the 12v supply to the fridge when the ignition is turned off.
If only stopping for a shopping trip or a short walk the fridge should be OK with no power.
Also I believe that AGM's etc have a life of about 3 years. Some say more some less depends on how they are used and charged etc, but it may be that you have realy given your existing batteries a hard time.
I bow to the experts but just my learning on batteries and why I decided to not instal AGM's in my setup.

My van had the batteries wired incorrectly and were not getting a full charge
We had the problem at Theresa dam ( remember the happy hours around the fire ) and had to get 2 x 80 solar panels and also the generator to keep them full

hi ken we still have fond memories of the happy hours at theresa creek dam.
our batteries struggled just with lights, tv and pumps at the dam . we believe they are getting near their end.
our son bought 2x 150amp/h cheap and discovered they were too big for him , so we bought them in anticipation of having to run an engel in south aussi this year to hold our massive catches of king george whiting. (ha ha)
the forum site has been great.
