Rubbing between the hands in rubber gloves works as well - and you can buy a garlic peeler, which is essentially the same thing as the rubber gloves!

If it is Australian garlic no need to peel, just bang a clove with the back of a knife or even the palm of your hand and Bingo it's peeled. ...Also Australian garlic is a lot stronger than that white skinned imported fumigated with chemical pretend garlic...
