SLOW WIRELESS BROADBAND

Here in Batemans Bay.

I have full strength wireless broadband cover but there are so many people here it has slowed down heaps since yesterday.

More than likely it will stay that way until Tuesday when most people have left the area.

I will just have to keep calm I reckon.

OK John, we will blame the cat then seeing you mentioned it.

Second thoughts, wombat and the black cat have joined forces to gang up on me.

My brother had a slow wireless connection which he resolved by switching to a different channel. He lives in a block of units which means that his default setup is the same as the majority of users and therefore subject to bandwidth sharing.

Another useful tool for analysing wifi connections is inSSIDer, from

    http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider/

Displays each wifi connection within range and what channels they're using, signal strength, etc.

might be a good program but did you see the price of that. $199

I'll stick with Dorian's link, I can afford that one, it's free, I love free, I can tell you that for free as Dougwe would say. biggrin

eek!! $199?? I just used the free version, gave me the info I needed when I was living in a block of units in Sydney. Showed me which channels the neighbors' routers were using, so I just set mine to an unused one, which seemed to have a small effect although it might have just been the placibo effect.

I too have wireless for on the road and at home.

It is 4g and at times even it slows down.

Now I noticed that last wed they were threading fibre optic cable through our streets for the broadband.

Now I am NOT going to connect so I hope when the local businesses hook up and those locals with plenty of dosh, my 4g will again be back to high speed as it was when I got it a couple of years ago.
