Clermont to Adelaide

If you have an iPad get wikicamps wil help in finding camp sites.
Not to sure what other systems are available for this though.

Enjoy the trip.

As part of our 'Down Under' trip from UK this December we plan a route in the motorhome from Clermont to Adelaide.  Any help or advice on campgrounds along the way, places to stop (and places not to stop), interesting sights would be appreciated.

A question: I calculate the distance at 2,500 kms, mostly Outback.  Is 12 days enough time to do the journey justice?

G'Day Hi Nat, the distance is not a problem, a little over 200 km per day, the time allowed is very tight for sight seeing, I doubt a month would be enough to see it all.

As a matter of interest are you aware of temperature in outback OZ in Dec? 40C is pretty normal a this time.

What route do you intend to take? Google shows at least 3 each of which will be different and have different attractions etc

Many thanks for your helpful responses.  Our proposed route is Mackay - Clermont - Emerald - Rolleston - Roma - Charleville - Cunnamulla - Bourke - Cobar - Broken Hill - Adelaide, but any suggestions would be appreciated.

We did experience 46 degrees C in Alice Springs some years back, and similar in Saudi Arabia - but that doesn't mean it's easy to live with - far from it, and we will do our best to be careful.

Thanks for the WikiCamps - it's a great place, pity its's not yet on laptops, but we will get it on our I-phones, though not sure yet how we're going to use them in Australia.

Safe and happy travelling while you are out here in Oz, maybe a good idea to also have plan B in place due to the time of year your are out here, as around this time of year in some of the places you intend to travel is what we call the wet season,so in some areas the roads maybe cut or closed.

Thanks Herbie, in your opinion how far south will I have to go before I can be sure I've left 'the wet' behind?   Terry

Hi Nat

Just travelled this route over the last 4 1/2 months.  Animals are a BIG hazard west of Roma particularly, the worst we have seen since the end of the drought in 2003. The "pick" on the side of the road is the only food in some areas.

Be very careful,,,,, heaps of emus on the move and pigs too especially around water troughs/dams and tanks

Thanks for that Baz, all the help we get from Grey Nomads goes into our log sheets.  It all helps.  Terry
