There is a guy called Collyn Rivers an author who writes about RV's, Solar and  other related electrical stuff wrote an article earlier in the year about just this subject.

I read his article re Imported from the USA and the legal ramifications. I read it an article published by a well known association's magazine. I am not sure if it is available on his own website but it would be well worth checking out re your post.

Cheers

HI

Yes, Collyn took up on this after I raised it FIRST some 2years ago

I supplied MY contacts details of the relevant Authorities to him, so he could personally confirm the correctness of my posts AT THAT TIME & before he published!smile

The sad thing is that many owners are in denial of the problem, and many converters are still getting away with itno

HI

That situationof using step down transformers has again been confirmed as NOT COMPLYING TO AUS STANDARDS been confirmed ,this morning, by Qld ESO
That the fitting of A step down transformer to run ALL existing 110V equipment does not comply with Aus Standards
A company making such a claim has been approached & despite their internet link claiming compliance by fitting a transformer THEY DENY HAVING EVER DONE SO

But they need hard evidence to act against those selling & claiming such do comply!
That has to be some one who has been conned ,coming forward with the evidence[Van & paper work with evidence of sale]

Any willing please contact me by PM

Hi Peter,
Very interesting situation, but can it be explained why it does not comply with the electrical regulations, rather than have a blanket answer of NO?

Hi Dave

It is all pretty complex , largely involves the safety aspects  & meeting the many requirements of the  Australian  Standards

One of the big problem is to obtain & maintain COMPLETE seperation of ALL 110V  from the 240V including ANY earthing in THAT situation AT ALL TIMES!!

Then there is the simple fact that ALL electrics excedding 50V AC SHALL comply to AUS standards AND HAVE AN AUSTRALIAN APPROVAL[

WE would need to sit down together with the AUstralian Standards in hand & go through the relevant sections /clauses and  explain the meaning & intent

BUT I'll have think & see what I can do!!
