Think I heard some-one on the ABC yesterday morning say next weekend Milo. They were talking footy, and reminded people so they wouldn't miss Games on TV. Sorry I can't be more specific.
Next Sunday - 6 October- at 2am. According to the website I just googled it starts on the first Sunday in October and finishes on the first Sunday in April. I never knew that! Thank you for motivating me to look that up, Milo.
I wish we had it in Queensland I deal with lots of companies in the southern States and when I get to work the phone is ringing already and you can not ring down south after 4,00pm as they have gone home.
I for one do not like daylight saving. I heard on the radio that when it starts in NSW this weekend there will be 5 different time zones in Aust. I think that work places these days offer various starting times so therefore if people want more daylight at the end of their day they could start work earlier. I also think it is hard on kids that have to travel a long way on buses for school. Just my thoughts.

I'm with you Nelly. Hate it with a passion!
That's one of the reasons I can't wait to retire fully. No more clock watching and those clock fiddling idiots in State Government can go to Hades If I have an appointment, I'll just ask the receptionist what time that is in EST and write that on my calendar!
I'm a shocking sleeper at the best of times and messing with my internal clock at the start of daylight savings doesn't help in the slightest
I could put up with it a bit better when it was in the old Victorian time scale because it didn't last so long, but of course Victoria, in their infinite wisdom, decided to follow Tasmania's lead and synchronise the change to and from daylight savings with Tassie.

Don't get too ****y. I believe the last referendum for daylight savings was only defeated by a narrow margin and also don't for get all the East-coasters who have migrated to WA and love daylight savings. They number in the thousands and I believe you have to kick them out of the road just to walk around Perth.
I have a friend who moved to Perth last December and she can't wait for another referendum on the subject. She's hoping it will get up this time round
Mind you, should Western Australia's pro-secessionists get their way, I would be over in a flash

Let's see if I understand this daylight saving thing.
In summertime, when the days are longer and there's plenty of sun, we want to extend the daylight hours even more. However, in winter time, when the days are shorter and we could really use the extra daylight hours, we do ... err ... nothing.

Dorian ??? In winter it's COLD ?? and Nobody wants to be outside In Summer it's warm and we like to spent as much time outside as possible ?? Simple really !! When it's Cold, I enjoy INSIDE activities, When it's Warm, I enjoy OUTSIDE activities, and the more daylight ? the better,
Dorian, can you please explain to me how we can get the extra daylight in winter, would be wonderful in my business. Considering during winter it's still dark at 6:45am and gets dark again at 5pm, what are recommending that we set the time so it's daylight at 5:45 am and dark at 4pm or so it gets daylight at 7:45am and gets dark at 6pm.
Or do you know a way of storing some if the daylight in summer and transferring it to the winter?

Well they could go metric time. 10 hrs instead of 12 per half day or I should say .5 of a day. That way each hour is longer thus no need for daylight saving.
I proposed this to my local paper back in the 80's but got no interest, didn't even get published.
They're all Communists them journalists. Them and nurses and teachers.
I believe they had daylight saving in London in winter during WW2, shifting the clock forward by up to 3 hours, mostly so that people would not be on the streets commuting to work at the time of expected bombing raids.
I dont know if we had it in Australia?
I love daylight saving, having time to go out after dinner during long evenings.
Daylight saving! bring it on, should be in place all states year round, WA in particular, was over there beginning of August, sunset at 5.09pm, what a joke.
I don't like daylight saving Like Sheba I think it is unnecessary. I hate the sun still blazing hot at 8 - 9pm. And as for the people who say to me well I can sit outside and go for a walk etc.....NO they don't when it's so bloody hot they race home from aircon work to aircon car to aircon house, shutters locked down and never see the light of day until the morning.....the streets are deserted..... Just what I see.
I would like it from April - Oct.
I live in Melbourne

I think it was originally design to allow the people who work in the sun to start earlier and then get home OUT of the sun earlier in the afternoon.
I loved it when i worked as I could do things after work but now it does not worry me as I get up with the sun and go down again just after the sun goes down. I don't waste my valuable time watching tv etc.
The only time wasting I have is the forums and I normally restrict that for whilst having breakfast and late in the afternoon after I have eaten.

Brian
