LEST WE FORGET

The Policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, officer. How shall I deal with You?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my Church have you been true?"
The officer squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Cause those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
But I never took a penny that wasn't mine to keep,
Though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills just got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help, though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me, I wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place among the people here.
They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand.
I've never expected or had too much.
But if you don't, I'll understand."
There was silence all around the throne where the saints had often trod.
As the officer waited quietly for the answer of his God.
"Step forward now, Officer, you've borne your burdens well.
Come walk  a beat on Heaven's Streets. You've done your time in Hell."

Thanks.

If we are in trouble who do we call ?

I hate the way the police are scapegoats for the Pollies revenue raising with speeding fines. There are far more serious issues with road conditions and badly maintained vehicles on the road and hoon drivers.

I was stopped at a RBT once and the vehicle in front of me had one headlight on high beam and no other lights at all. I asked the policeman why he hadn't put it off the road and he told me he was not allowed to it was a random breath test station and all he was allowed to do was the RBT.

The Police cop a lot of flack from people, but when the chips are down who do they call first?
They are only doing their job with very little thanks and I have never grumbled (like some) when pulled over for a Breath Test
OR even when caught for doing a bit over the speed limit. no

We need them and without the police there would be mayhem. They should be admired for doing a sometimes dangerous job,

I know that I myself could not have done work as a policeman.  Thanks to all of them............Sarg.

I worked for ten years with the Queensland Police Service as an unsworn member working front counter in various police stations and police beats.  I loved every minute of it even on those days where I was threatened with knives and syringes by offenders etc.  There is a real camaraderie among the police family that envelopes all within the service unsworn and sworn members alike.  I had the pleasure of training new recruits on the scope of all that they would get at the front counter, various forms, procedures etc and I loved forming friendships with new recruits and watching them grow as valuable policemen and policewomen.  I often told them that there would never be enough money in the world that would encourage me to don the blue uniform as it is a thankless job and I saw that daily by the way they were treated by the so called public.  I taught those young officers to treat all with dignity and respect who attended the front counter even people on bail for various crimes and some were for murder etc.  Innocent until proven guilty was my motto, although sometimes it was hard to do with the lost causes and recidivist offenders.  The young officers were amazed that those so called offenders on bail would bring me information on various drug instances, break & enter offenders etc and they would only give me the info because they respected me for treating them with dignity and respect.  I would always pass on that info to the intel office and there were arrests, drug searches etc that resulted.

I will always remember Police Remembrance Day for the fallen and their families.

Those that wear the blue uniform are true heroes in my book and always will be.
