According to a small notice in todays' Morning Bulletin, the Rockhampton Council, at last Tuesdays' Council Meeting, approved a 6 month Trial for free-camping at Woolwash Lagoon, 5 K's south of Rocky, for Caravans, Motor-homes, and Campervans.
It's not off the Bruce Highway. You have to go down Port Curtis Road to get to it. Check at the Information Centre for directions.
Don't have any other details yet.
Cheers,
Sheba.

Went there on the way south, and it looks like a beaut spot, beside a lagoon full of birdlife, and perhaps a few barras. Its on the Port Curtis road, and I would recommend it. About 5 klms sth of town. Will camp there myself on the way nth. Bill
OK; I drove out to Woolwash Lagoon with the intention of staying the night, however, all along the road there are signs (they look quite new) saying "No Camping" with threats of fines, until you get just past the lake at the corner of the road where there's a sign saying that camping is permitted for 24 hours with more threats of fines if you overstay. The area that you can camp is very small and just off the road at a sharp corner, there are no facilities, and needless to say, no-one was camped there. We decided not to stay, another town's supermarket, pub and petrol garage will get my cash, but not Rockhampton.
It bemuses me " this is our patch so nick off " attitude. Wonder what someone from Rocky would think if i stood on the road into my town and told them ,dont stop here nick off...?
