Can someone please explain to me why some people when they see the sign ' overtaking lane ends in 500m' or similar, they have to pull straight across into the other lane.
Twice today following vans doing between 85 - 90km's this happened to me, I had just pulled out to overtake & as soon as I get within a few metres of the van, bang on comes blinker and they pulled straight across. Really the signs are there to indicate to get ready to merge when safe, not mean go now and cut everybody off.
Don't get me wrong not complaining of the speed they were doing as I do similar when in the camper but I also give anybody following me every opportunity to pass when I can.

Gday Woolly and welcome to the forum I don't think anyone will be able to tell you why as it doesn't make any sense and we have probably all experienced it at some time, its almost as annoying as when you are pulling a van and try to merge from an overtaking lane back into main stream and nobody will let you back in.

Those sort of drivers are usually the ones that travel just below the speed limit and when there is an overtaking lane will speed up so that you cannot go past them and then slow down again when the overtaking lane finishes. At least the ones you nearly collected actually put their blinkers on!
I sometimes think people either don't have mirrors, or don't use them!! If we see someone out there, we slow down till they get past - we are not in a hurry to get anywhere - especially not to a panel shop!!!! or hospital!!!!

What annoys me as well are the ones who sit right beside you as you try to enter back into the main lane. Have been pushed over into the gravel a couple times and stop till they move on.
They obviously have over estimated the strength to overtake. I always pull back slightly when another comes up in the passing lane to allow them to get past.
Welcome to the forum Woolly. Hope your experience on here is better than your experience on the road. And no, no one knows why that happens except perhaps thoughtlessness.
