Birdsville Track

Any feedback from recent travellers on the road from Windorah to Birdsville and the Birdsville Track. After accurate and up to date info, I am monitoring the relevant websites and weather

thanks

Rod

There will be no "accurate and up to date info" until you get there and see it for yourself.
A lesson I learned about road conditions a long time ago.
Trust no one. Go and have a look. One person's 'horror road' is another person's highway.

Cheers,
Peter

Update on the Birdsville track.
I ventured this journey by myself in December 2013 and returned in late Jan 2014, Went from Cloncurry QLD through Duchess then Djarra onto Biloela, then onto Boulia then Birdsville, Took the inside track, Which just 6 months before had reopened after being closed for 6 years, Much kinder on your tyres, then joined the original track onto Mungageera, Then onto Mooree, Certainly a trip of a life time, Had no problems, But cant be that kind to the folks that was supposed to be traveling with me, I didn't see them at all until I got to Mungageera. They had lost their hitch pin on the camping trailer, had to back track to birdville to get a new one, rehitched then 200 kl down the track got their back window of 4x4 smashed,
The road is rough, Down to 25kl at one stage, Maybe from ignorance than anything else, Found out on the way back that is actually easier than I thought to go a bit quicker, The road were being graded in parts and in about 200kl of the 581 you could be on a beach, could get up to 100 kl per hour, Don't be fooled by that, the rest of the road is very rough and jaw shaking at times.
Regards
Georgie ( Solo Female )
