I am wondering if anyone knows why in Renmark SA,they only allow motor homes in the free camp and not caravans.
In my way of thinking it is really discriminative towards the choice of vehicle one chooses to use as there Rec Vehicle.
As long as the vehicle used comes in under what the council had stipulated must be in place before you are allowed to park there what difference does it mater what you use to live in.
A lot of vanners would be zipping past this particular town just on the principal of this crazy law.
Me for one would not even stay in any of the van parks ,due to this fact.
The van parks would not have many motor homes parked up, only the poor caravaner owner.
Do not think this would go down very well if the rules were reversed.
Maybe they think only riff raff live in caravans - no just joking!!!! Think it comes down to the "self contained" thing. Some caravans don't have grey water tanks, I know a lot these days do, but that is the only explanation I can think of - and by the way, when we stayed at the one in Cowra Street - we were the only ones there!

There is another park not far away, not quite as stark - but the same rules apply apparently, when we drove past in the morning, there were a couple of motorhomes there. And as you say, herbie, lots of the smaller motorhomes are not self contained - but what other reason would council have for limiting the parking availability??

Have you contacted the council for there reason. Seems to me the way to go. Renmark is a beaut place it is a shame. Perhaps the council could be persuaded tp reverse the rule if enough caravanners contact them.

"The bylaw is here http://www.renmarkparinga.sa.gov.au/web ... w_No_4.pdf Its quite specific that only motorhomes can use such sites and a motorhome by definition is "a recreational self contained vehicle which is not a caravan...""
This is from another forum, who also think that this is a very strange attitude for a council to take (don't know how to make the thingy a link, sorry)
Was quite a lot of discussion on the subject, and as usual you need to be a Rhodes Scholar to decipher the by-law!!!!!!
