Hi Milo, when you get your problem sorted/ fixed could you please let us know how/what fixed it.so if it happens to any of us we may have first hand knowledge how to go about fixing our own .
It was extremely ironic that after reading this post the other day - the exact same thing happened to me. Except in my case it was the "H" that was repeating - maybe it was the key I hit at the time.
Now I know on the laptop the keys sometimes stick, due to the way the keyboard is made stuff get's in behind them and jams the keys, or sometimes they just don't work. Although I am using an external KB.
I couldn't even use the normal 'Click start' procedure to shut down the computer as the search box was filling with these H's. CTRL+ALT+DEL (Three finger salute) went to users, logged myself off then shut-down the computer from there, rebooted and it was fine.
Odd indeed and has never happened since.

Milo before re installing make a full backup of your HD programs but not windows then a clean install and before you load anything on make sure it doesn't do the same thing. if all appears normal go into your backup and add 1 program at a time testing each one. If its a virus in the boot section it should have been removed and all should be good.
Downloaded cccleaner as someone suggested a couple of weeks ago. Used to clean up old files, cookies only etc NOT to play with registry.
On 1st scan it found 5gb of rubbish, temp internet files etc, clipboard junk still held, and after scan laptop was lightning speed for my old XL op system.
Started running slow again so went into Internet Exporer (IE) today and deleted all "browsing history". Turns out not all browsing history is being deleted and cccleaner found more. So now running fast again.
Anyone know why IE isn't dumping all the rubbish when delete browsing history is selected???
Cheers Baz

there is an option on the left of ccleaner to fix up the registry, prior to doing the registry it gives you an option to make a backup of the registry, do that before running the reg option.
I have not used IE for years, so perhaps somebody else will be able to answer your question about the history.

Yeh thanks Wombat,,, however a previous registry scanner I tried years ago proved a real problem,,, not likely to go there again.

That is the idea of the backup prior to exe the reg part of that program, it will put the backup on your desktop.
I do understand your not wanting to play with the reg file, but its all done for you, I prefer to go into the reg and adjust what I want, if I'm in a hurry I do use the CC reg option.
