New over taking lane Bruce H/Way

The 1.5 million dollar over taking lane on the Bruce H/Way at Ambrose between Rockhampton and Gladstone QLD ,was only open less than 24hrs and had to be closed due to the pot holes and crumbling.

Makes one wonder of the quality of the road base used before it was sealed.

This work in this section was started back in Jan of this year well before the floods.

The same thing has happened on the stretch between Childers and Howard. New seal, all broken up and rough to drive on. What are they doing wrong.
Same going into Childers from Biggy. That last winding bit, new with potholes.
Incredible the amount they spend on these roads and they fall apart in minutes.

I think they have to take a long hard look at who/what companies that are doing this road work and and see if they all come under the same named companies, my inside info is telling me it is.

They need to make the companies that do the work Responsible for Repair's in the first 6month's of the stretch they do..

hold the Last Main Payment for 180day's.. if the road Fail's they Pay and they get knocked off the Road construction Job's List.. Even if they hire a Subcontractor to do the work..

That sort of thing is common in the building industry, but not all forms of contract accept this system. A properly written tender and contract document will specify a Defects Liability period, generally of 12 months, which clearly specifies what defects are considered to be liable, and the processes to resolving the matters. Associated with that contract will be a Retention Amount which is withheld until the Defects Liability period has expired and all relevant defects have been rectified, then the final payment is released to the contractor. Genuine contractors respect this, as if they default, they are likely to be removed from the Architect / Consultant preferred tenderer list and will not secure any future work from that source.
