Volunteering At Bundaberg

We responded to an ad on this site for volunteers, for the Community Rebuild Group at Bundaberg and Upper Burnett. The project is to assist homeowers to rebuild their homes and is being led by the Combined Churches Group comprising the Salvation Army and Lurthian Church.

So far we have 8 GN in our little band, our vans and motor-homes are being accommodated at the old showgrounds, which has been closed to general camping. We have a large shed being used to sort and distribute many donated items to numerous households in the area. The project also includes assisting less fortunate householders to refurbish their homes, with jobs including painting, tiling and other numerous minor repairs, plus suppling furniture and house-hold goods.

Soon the majority of our group, will be relocated, for a couple of weeks to the township of Mundubbera about 200km from Bundy, which has several houses that were severely damaged by the January floods.

Our group has, on one hand, been slightly dismayed at the delay it has taken to get aid to these less fortunate people. However we are taken aback by the overwhelming appreciation that we received from the house-holders that we have helped. It's great to see the smile on their faces as they realise their dreams come true.

Russell and Shenni, Bob and Brian, Chris and Olga, and Ian and Di

Good luck and well done with your work in the Bundy/Mundubberra area.  We always seem to be on the wrong side of the country when it comes to volunteering for this type of thing.  While I hope there are no more disasters anywhere that require volunteers, we are always available, if in the right area

I am glad you are experiencing the thrills and rewards of volunteering your time in areas where help is needed.
We usually have similar results when working with Blazeaid.
I usually keep south of the QLD border but I think the response would still be the same from the people effected.
I too hope we don't have any disasters this year as I am looking forward to just travelling this year but know I will get the call as soon as the need arises.
I feel if many more tried volunteering they would enjoy their travels more and also get to find many good spots to camp.
Regards
Brian
