Some of those are so ridiculous.
Stopping within 10 metres of an intersection which doesn't have a trafficlight.
What if it has a stop sign, or cars are coming across.
Tooting the horn, what are they for? Remove all horns out of vehicles.

Some make sense Sarg but some don't, some are here already in Victoria and have been for some time.

One I like in NSW is, indicating your intention when entering and EXITING a round a bout, I have actually done that all the time anyway but many don't. One pet hate of mine is a car that has indicated to turn right into a round a bout, keeps the indicator on and keeps going straight, just hate that.

I just think it would be great if we could convince our state politicians to make the road rules the same in every state I wonder how many Victorians get booked for doing a U turn at traffic lights in NSW

Roundabouts are the bain of my life now also. I do not know when they became so complicated. They are not a corner, they are a bump in the road to slow traffic and to allow for a smoother flow. Of course indicators are used if one is actually turning left or right around the roundabout, just as you would if turning a corner without the roundabout, but it drives me crazy when people put them on to enter if going straight ahead. This rule has been in QLD for some time, I know when we first moved up there to live it was very confusing. Oh that might have just been me!!!!!

The other thing with them now they have become a garden bed with a lot of them being planted with high bushes that makes it almost impossible to see the indicators anyways. Some are really pretty though and do offer a sense of colour to a town.

I think that there some suit sitting in an office somewhere trying to justify his position so makes up new and confusing rules. I think there might be quite a few of them out there somewhere, but then that is another whole subject.

Ok I will get off my matchbox now and get on with packing another box so I can get out there and do battle with the roundabouts of Australia.

Gday...

And, should you care to read the 30 pages, is the list of fines and demerit points for failure to adhere to QLD road rules.

Well when I become Prime Minister the following will occur:

$352 + 2 POINTS PLAYING LOUD MUSIC - Abolished, this helps in concentration and helps lessen the effects of people tooting their horns at you.
No fine/points loss

USING MOBILE PHONE INCLUDING USE BY CYCLISTS
Immediate loss of licence, vehicle/bike crushed get your shoes on - 6 months jail

FOLLOWING ANOTHER VEHICLE TOO CLOSELY
Immediate loss of licence, must resit test at own expense.

DRIVING WITH PERSON OR ANIMAL ON LAP
Immediate loss of licence, vehicle and animal crushed. $300 and 3 points plus $1000 fine payable to RSPCA.

POINTS DRIVING WITHOUT A CLEAR VIEW IN ALL DIRECTIONS
Immediate loss of licence. $1000 fine payable to Vision Australia.

MAKING A U-TURN ACROSS A SINGLE OR DOUBLE CONTINUOUS  LINE
$300 and 3 points.

MAKING A U-TURN AT AN INTERSECTION CONTROLLED BY  LIGHTS
Abolish this I do it all the time! No fine. Unless there is a sign saying NO U-TURN, then $500 fine 5 points.

DRIVING IN RIGHT-HAND LANE OF A MULTI-LANE ROAD WITH AN 80KM/H OR HIGHER LIMIT  driving at or below 20Km of the prescribed limit for a distance greater then 5Km.
$200 fine, 2 points.

TOOTING THE HORN - Hang on isn't the horn meant to be working to pass Roadworthy? If you can't use it why have it? Stupid Stupid abolish this.

REVERSING FOR LONGER THAN NECESSARY - I guess this is more aimed at hoons or people to stupid/lazy to just turn around.

ENTERING AN INTERSECTION WHEN THE ROAD BEYOND IS  BLOCKED - A good concrete barrier and immediate tazering should fix this.

PARKING/STOPPING WITHIN 10M OF AN INTERSECTION  WITHOUT A TRAFFIC LIGHT
Now I thought this was 30m in Vic, but no one ever obeys it and I've only ever seen it enforced post accident.
My new law! Tow the bloody vehicle away and crush it, send owner christmas card style photo of car crushed.

LEAVING VEHICLE WITHOUT HANDBRAKE LEFT ON - This is silly, I bet they could make 10 million per day with just this one - Abolished.

HAVING SAT NAV IN AN IMPEDING POSITION - SUPPOSED TO  BE IN BOTTOM RIGHT HAND IN FRONT OF DRIVER
Actually I find it more dangerous in the bottom right side, it blocks my sight line to the front right. Abolish this one to, unless the GPS is clearly impeding the forward vision of driver.

FAILING TO HAVE A HAND ON THE WHEEL WHILE STOPPED AT  LIGHTS OR ANY INTERSECTION
Your supposed to have two hands on the wheel at all times whilst driving, which I believe the technicality is from the time you start it thats considered driving.
So increase this one under my new regime to $500 and 5 Points.

biggrinbiggrin I just accessed the Philippine site that was posted by Big Gorilla and found a couple of offences that I think should definitely be incorporated in Aust (1) Dirty or unsightly vehicle, fine 150 Pesos,
(2) Arrogance or discourtesy (3) motor vehicle with metallic wheels, these all appealed to my sense of fair justice.nonono

 Gday...

From my days of working in Manilla in the 1990s the traffic fines were applied by the Police in the form of so many cigarettes when they needed one.

Should they decide they also wanted to have morning tea/lunchtime/afternoon tea then not only was the 'penalty' a cuppla cigarettes, but also a few pesos.

Fantastic people the Pilipinos - loved em heaps ... but the police (and other "officials") were in their own league.

In many ways, no different to Straya, except their corruption was open.

cheers - John

Correct me if I'm wrong but I was under the impression there was a standard traffic code agreed to by all States. Maybe someone with that knowledge, maybe one of the ex-police officers on this Forum can shed some light on it.

I was living in La Union in the 90s. I found the best way to handle the Police when they pull you over is to pay the fine on the spot. Just give the money to the Police, no receipt nothing further !!! It's called "Bribe" !!!

So i guess the 'so called' new QLD road rules stated at the top of the thread are just tongue in cheek?

If so then it would help if a little smiley emoticon could be placed with it.

I think it's a good sensible rule. It makes you aware that the driver in the inside lane of the roundabout is about to change to the outer lane of the roundabout and it is not safe to enter the outside lane of the roundabout.

What really irks me is the ones that stop in the lefthand entry lane to the roundabout, when the car on the roundabout is signalling to turn right and is in the inside lane.

Or one that nearly got me, when a truck signalled left to as though to exit the roundabout, which meant i was safe to enter the roundabout, but he continued around and actually turned right at the second exit.

Yes a nice smilie would have helped:
www.frasercoastchronicle.com.au/news/social-media-claims-about-new-traffic-laws-are-fal/1895153/

The above article has this nice last line:
"One of the unusual rules that did exist, however, was that a driver can be fined $66 for tooting the horn." Go figure!

Well I did get fined for it in Qld many years ago, so I always obey it now. I can't remember what it cost me, but I was pretty cheesed off because everyone did it at this particular intersection and I just happened to be the unlucky goose that got caught.

Without looking too closely, most of these rules have been in place since I got a licence over 40 yrs ago.  Some are ot really enforced but do give the police a reason to "chat" the idiots. Can't see too much of a problem myself. One of my pet dislikes is drivers who won't leave space at an intersection, and that is an offence.

I think you can't be necessarily be fined for tooting the horn. The term used to be unlawful use of a klaxon. If tooting a horn were totally illegal, vehicles wouldn't be fitted with them.

Just because one person wasn't aware of rules that have been around for years, I think says more about their ability to follow the road rules than trying to make out that said rules are somehow  new money making exercise.
