Thanks Yeo, really wanting the camp fire for ambience than cooking (tho they go hand in hand)  Will wait to see if Duh replies.  I know he is off at the moment on a wildflower circuit, so he may not check the forum till his return.

 

Just checked your blog. The Bluff sure looks like a mighty climb.  Don't think my poor battered knees and ankles will do that one.

Planning to go to Stirling Ranges later this month.  Can anyone tell us if you can have a camp fire there.  I know they have gas bbqs, so that may well rule out campfires.

 Was there with Duh (Vic) in 2011 and they have excellent gas facilities. He would no doubt remember more whilst I was still sore from climbing Bluff Knoll. I would remember now being more into camp fires.

Majority of places in south west  WA no camp fires from 1st October until 15th April. This probably does not answer your question as I don't know if camp fires are allowed at all. Certainly none from 1st October at best .Get enough bush fire now without having to contend with camp fires adding to the source.

Thanks Woolman, I knew about the "curfew" of 1st October, we will be there earlier.  Waiting on them to reply to my question.  not a problem if we can't but need to know whether to take in our own firewood before we arrive.  We are currently camped somewhere where there is plenty, and when we leave, would like to pack some to take.

Have had a response from CALM

Thank you for your enquiry.

Camp & cooking fires are not permitted in any of the National Parks in the South Coast Region. Gas barbeques and camp stoves are permitted no solid fuel. Camping sites at Moingup Spring are provided on a first in, best dressed basis. There is no booking facility.

It is recommended that you contact the Ranger to enquire about the current capacity, weather and road conditions, before you leave.

Please note that in the event of severe, extreme or catastrophic fire danger the park may need to be closed for obvious safety reasons. The fire weather information is given out during the weather on ABC radio; otherwise you can ring the Albany DEC Office on 9842-4500 or the Ranger in the Stirling Range National Park details below
