Australia

Try taking on a Vietnam Vet that flies an Aussie flag from his van/car and see how far you would get!

A mate of ours from Bollon passed this on (author unknown).

When the shearing sheds are silent and the stock camps fallen quiet
When the gidgee coals no longer glow across the outback night
And the bush is forced to hang a sign, 'gone broke and won't be back'
And spirits fear to find a way beyond the beaten track

When harvesters stand derelict upon the wind swept plains
And brave hearts pin their hopes no more on chance of loving rains
When a hundred outback settlements are ghost towns overnight
When we've lost the drive and heart we had to once more see us right

When 'Pioneer' means a stereo and 'Digger' some backhoe
And the 'Outback' is behind the house, there's nowhere else to go
And 'Anzac' is a biscuit brand and probably foreign owned
And education really means brainwashed and neatly cloned

When you have to bake a loaf of bread to make a decent crust
And our heritage once enshrined in gold is crumbling to dust
And old folk pay their camping fees on land for which they fought
And fishing is a great escape; this is until you're caught

When you see our kids with yankee caps and resentment in their eyes
And the soaring crime and hopeless hearts is no longer a surprise
When the name of RM Williams is a yuppie clothing brand
Not a product of our heritage that grew off the land

When offering a hand makes people think you'll amputate
And two dogs meeting in the street is what you call a 'Mate'
When 'Political Correctness' has replaced all common sense
When you're forced to see it their way, there's no sitting on the fence

Yes one day you might find yourself an outcast in this land
Perhaps your heart will tell you then, '. I should have made a stand'
Just go and ask the farmers that should remove all doubt
Then join the swelling ranks who say, 'don't sell Australia out'

You know any outburst of nationalism like this is considered racism these days - by Australians.

We have some kind of cultural cringe going on apparently.

You try putting an Aussie flag on your car and see how long it takes before your car gets vandalised.

Just my observations.

Cheers or should I say... sat sri akal.

"When harvesters stand derelict on windswept plains...."

We really aught to support our farmers more, if its not the big 2 supermarkets ripping them off, the mining companies barge in and start drilling for CSG.
What will we eat when they all go broke?

What I can't believe we are selling our land to the Chinese etc. instead of leasing it like was done in the old days for properties.
Have land next to us in Kinka Beach (near Yeppoon Qld.) being sold to Chinese as a housing estate so they can import pre-built units to house miners. No consultation, bugger us who live here.

Hi,
I hear what you are saying and I see what you see, but I also see a great country that is still the lucky country with all the changes and immigration, from the chinese during the gold rush, the europeans, italians, greeks after the wars, the vietnamese and so on until this present time when we are seeing boat ppl. At each change the words have been the same, but Australia still changed and changed for the better.
Now we are retiring and some have to sell their homes to afford the rigs to travel in comfort. As a nation Aust. is rich in minerals and land and is doing the same to provide the standards that we all expect.
And lastly what is going to happen to our traditional caravan parks, with the growing trend in self sufficiency, the message is quite clear "change or become extinct". Those that dont change I dont think will prosper.
And I think that this is why we are still a lucky country, because politicians through time have been able to see and adapt and welcome change and what it may bring.

I don't mind the immigration waves that have brought greeks, italians, chineses, vietnamese to this country, or the scottish, irish or convicts, or the current refugees.

I don't mind the catholics, protestants, hindus or moslems.

Let them play AFL, NRL, soccer or whatever.

Happy to have anyone who wants to work and make this place wonderful.

However, selling it off is another thing !

Last week the chinese coal company which mines under Mt Sugarloaf NSW "fixed" the subsidence by "grouting". i.e. pouring tons of concrete into the cracks and crevices. Trouble is the concrete ran out down the hill into the creek. Thousands of tons of it!

That's absolutely dreadful Rosie! furious How can this happen in Australia without national outrage, just because nobody makes a fuss if it happens in China.

Maybe if a footballer had concrete poured on him we'd have heard about it!

I know, I'm getting cynical in my old age... I'll shut up now.

This mine site should be closed down...PRONTO.

The environmental rules and conditions regarding this slap happy approach to what is called in the industry as a breach is a breach that is regarded to be in the very high list of Breaching environmental guide line.

There should have been an incident report submitted to the Mines Department and Work Safe.

My line of work is dealing in these type of miss haps and near misses all the time.

The site should have been closed down until a full investigation was carried out by the Mines Dept.

There is some dodgy mining companies around just like in any big business ,so this is why there is so many rules/ regs put in place to stop this kind of behaviour.

You're forgetting this is the new Australia where we give everything away and don't complain in case we offend some foreign power...

Yep the days of 'Aussie Bloke' foreign affairs have given way to University educated pimply faced mealy mouthed public servant accountants.

Remember the Red Hot Chilli Peppers song "Give it away now" well that should be our national anthem.

Just so you know when I say stuff like this I'm accused of being racist... go figure.

Cheers and happy evening to all Aussies.

According to the "Dictionary of American Slang and Colloquial Expressions by Richard A. Spears.Fourth Edition", that's Yankee slang.

Hi Steve,

I'm with you and I've only been here eight years,

FIFO, Fit In or F*** Off

I'm proud to have given up my UK identity/passport (ceremonially burnt on Australia Day 2010) and embrace the way of life here and PROUD to be an Australian Citizen.

I have given up on several UK ex-friends that reside here because of their attitude and have been called a racist by them!!  GOOD.............

Ironically, Australia as a country still hangs on to the skirt of Mother England. We still have a foreign monarch as our head of state (how can an unelected ruler be the head of a democracy?), and we still have a foreign emblem on our national flag. Only after we jettison all this embarassing colonial baggage can we stand up as a truly independent nation. And we would probably save billions of dollars each and every year simply by dumping the governors and governor general, and all the other parasitic medieval anachronisms. Abolishing the states and territories, and unifying their legislatures and bureaucracies, would probably save another 100 billion dollars.

I agree with you Dorian, but even so... our Queen is one helluva Lady!!! Had she done less of a good job we probably would have voted to become a republic when we had that referendum. As a women who has promoted peace and co-operation over such a long, long working life, I reckon shes a wonderful role model!

I think we need to be careful of national pride lest it leads to a feeling of superiority. I'm proud to be an Aussie but not at the expense of other nationalities (except Kiwis, of course hehe).
