Skinny bridges

Just finished a trip up through WA and every other state, why is it in WA they have several one lane bridge,s I think they have forgotten to widen them , infact they are blxxdy dangerous , I would hate to be travelling at night and come across them, can someone give me an answer why they have left them like that.

Who knows why,no money or insight, but we still have  one lane bridges in Victoria and it wasn't too long ago they existed on the Bruce highway between Nambor and Gladstone. cheers Peter

I would have thought the answer is obvious.  Cost v Demand.

If the traffic demand on a road is not high then spend the money elsewhere.

WA has to put up with getting such a small share of Federal Road Funding even though there are more (remote) roads than other states.

They are only dangerous if (when) drivers ignore the prominent warning signs approaching these bridges and try to beat oncoming traffic.

I have come across several one way bridges in my travels. Lots in Qld and also Vict. One on the way from Echuca to Nathalia has a flashing sign "Do not enter if a vehicle is already on the bridge"

Gday...

I woz thinken the same ting Santa ... hmm ... ya jest drive to the conditions. If no-one else is on the bridge no probs - if someone coming, let them have first suck of the sauce bottle.

Cheers - John

There is plenty of room for a vehicle, just no room for passing or overtaking.

Semis use them on the highway and slow only to the bridge speed limit (if there is one).

A few weeks ago there was a 'head-on' between 2 roadtrains on....on....bugga, can't remember the name of the bridge.  It is about 8km west of Willare Bridge in the Kimberly.

I can remember the time when there were one lane bridges on both the Hume and Pacific highways.
Can also remember on one of these self same bridges on the Hume when I tried to play chicken with a semi.
Cheers
