Yeah go ahead, because I probably have the same questions as you. I guess your referring to the likes of the 'Dream Pot' etc - there is models out that are a lot cheaper then the famed dream pots, don't know how well they (or the dream pot) work though.

I was thinking of getting one, kinda handy to be able to throw something together in the morning, sit the said pot in the back of the vehicle or on the floor and have something reasonably edible once you hit camp.

We use a Dream Pot . Would not be without it .

Got it second hand a couple of years ago for $40 at a garage sale . Instruction and recipe books with it .

I already have a dream pot - received it for a presy from the family for Christmas quite some time ago. I have used it to re-heat soup - did try with corn meat but hubby and I weren't really convinced about if it was cooked (followed all instructions). I suppose it is just the fact that it is not simmering all of the time - I don't know really. I wondered about cooking the meat separately and cooking veges in the cooker and adding the meat later - I know it gets away from the whole idea of the cooker.
Not sure whether cooking in thermal underwear would make any difference Dougwe and Gary!!!

The wife does a mean pickle pork in our dreampot . We wouldn't be without one on our travels and at home as well.

Ours is an Eco Pot, and has a 12v accessory to keep food warm (at prescribed temperature) if planning to leave in pot after the three hour cooking period. We use it mostly for corned beef or casseroles, but find the actual inner pot good on the gas if cooking up crabs etc. We also used the inner pot for cooking up bulk roo meat for our dog.

I use the dream pot for its traditional use, plus the pots are also used on the single burner butane gas stove and - for my sins - on the open fire. However, and I know a few grins will be forthcoming from some pro black grotty billy advocates, I do coat them with wash up detergent before using on the open fire (Just to keep them bright and shiny!)

now, in response to the last post re the thermal cookers, yes, they make great corned beef, apricot chicken and every conceivable type of stew, casserole, etc. i have used for "roasts" but you do need to brown first and bring to the boil for the recommended time before chucking in the cooker.

I prefer to make breads and cakes and that type of stuff in the WebberQ as the thermal cooker does not get the nice finish, however I could be doing something wrong?

I have seen the Lions Club at Duringa Free Camp make bacon and egg muffins for all the travelers on a Sunday morning, as a fundraiser for Lions Club and maintaining the campgrounds ... they had 3 thermal cookers, 2 for toasted muffins and one for fried bacon - the eggs were made to orders, $3 including coffee. ... Better than McDonalds and for a better cause ....How good is that! my main use is to cook dinner (and that includes veggies) in the morning for when we are traveling, so at least hubby (the chaspart of chaslib) does not have to cook after driving all day (Settle down guys, just joking .. Usually we eat out!).

So there you go .....

My wife and I bought a Deluxe Traveller Thermal Cooker some years ago , the inner pot is great for general cooking and we have successfully made many slow cooked meats and soups, but here is the weird thing . When the appropriate cooking is done and transfer the inner pot to the outside pot we are unable to close the lid and lock it down because the handle of the inner lid is to high So we remove the inner lid and lock down the external lid. At the end of the cooking period everything is cooked perfectly. DO I HAVE THE WRONG LID FOR THAT SIZE COOKER.
