I decided to add extra time in Byron Bay and I spent time just sight seeing and checking out close by towns etc and I also slipped up the road to the Gold Coast as well as my next door neighbour and his wife are there on holidays as they do each year. I spoke to my mates son and as I thought my mate and his wife are overseas.
I enjoyed my drive to the Gold Coast and the 'Drive through' as the last time I was there was the year 2000 and a lot has changed since then, it's also horrible to see all the erosion along the beach front, frightening is probably a better word. Just to let you know, I still like the Gold Gold Coast even with all the people and tall buildings. Extremely busy though.
Back to Byron Bay I went. I was told about the view of the sunrises from the lighthouse in Byron so got up there about 5am one morning and bugger half of BB was already up there and couldn't get parking and couldn't leave my car down the bottom and walk up as just a bit to far and steep for me. So went back another morning earlier but again, busy busy busy so I gave up. I did go back during the day and pay the $7 lighthouse parking fee, geee they know how to charge in down town Byron Bay that's for sure, you pay for parking just about everywhere, $2 for 1 hour.
One thing though about Byron is the traffic, I found it difficult to believe the amount of traffic on the road leading in from the north end, busy, busy, busy.
The park I stayed in was about 3km on the north side out of the actual shopping precinct and night life areas, the traffic each night from 4pm till late stretched PAST the park and all day over the weekend. It's busy all the time really. Byron is really not all that big but very busy. Oh, I forgot to mention, many years ago I was told when you enter Byron from one end and by the time you get to the other end you are as high as a kite and a bit silly, now I must say that I never felt any different all the time I was there, now hang on, I here someone say I am always silly, well your probably right.
I spent more time checking out small towns a tad north (Brunswick Heads twice) and south of Byron and it is a lovely part of Australia that's for sure and everywhere I visited was very busy indeed. I got talking to quite a few of the local natives and everyone I spoke too just love the area and are very proud and protective of it all, good on 'em too. I'm not really sure why but I felt very relaxed in Byron Bay and just love being near the coast, more so than in-land, the reason for my extended stay, I ended up staying 6 nights, well why not. I made this my last major port of call and just head home and still be there in time for appointments etc that have been bought forward.
The weather gods have been good to me again with nice warmish days in the low 20's and nights 7-12 so no complaints from this happy camper. I did however get the warmer night cloths and beanie out of storage in readiness for the boarder crossing back into Victoria. I must give the weather gods a pat on the back as the weather in general all the time I have been away has been pretty good really only a few days were a slight problem but nothing that wasn't overcome in one way or another.
Now this will actually be my last update for this what I called " My Northern Migration" as after receiving a phone call while at Byron Bay that one of my appointments as mentioned above has been bought forward to this coming week I had to start heading home so decided a couple of one night stands in free camps for sleep on the way home was called for. The first night was spent at Belahdelah Lions Park Free Camp Central NSW Coast, a very nice place to camp but no facilities and next to a nice river and a bit chilly early in the next morning. The second night at Gunning Public Pool Free Camp, near Yass NSW, also a lovely camp to stay with flushing toots and FREE hot shower, next to the Pool and a lovely little creek. Now this place was, well, BLOODY FREEZING over night and -3 at 6am the next morning according to the mercury on the wall so if you end up there in winter take the woolies as you will need heaps or at least some sort of heating.
This trip has been the longest I have been out in the playground ever since early this year and have met some great people both GN Members and also many well, just happy campers. I have also seen and stayed in some great places and had a range of great experiences along the way, I don't regret one thing since I started so a big thankyou to everyone and I mean everyone I have met for the first time or caught up with again, if I missed you along the way I apologise but will catch up again somewhere, sometime in the playground.
I did meet a lovely lady though but unfortunately things didn't work out the way we would have liked so I suppose I do regret that and I'm sorry for that.
All going well I'll be back in the playground real soon.
I have included some pics as usual. Unfortunately there are a couple of black spots in the image's due to My Digital SLR camera sensor and mirror getting dust on board and I need to be in a dust free environment with correct cleaning gear to sort that out.
Yibada, Yibada, that's all folks, see ya somewhere in the playground and,
Another interesting update, Doug, and I enjoyed reading it. Nice pics too. I was surprised about parking fees in Byron... things have changed since the '70s for sure... and two bob across the Harbor Bridge.
Thanks for the updates Doug and it was a real pleasure to meet you in Townsville. Safe and happy travels and perhaps one of these days we'll be able to meet up again.
I hope I don't need any repairs, got a few spare parts already. As for the tug well I hope all is as looks and not bad. I will let you know via here when all sorted.

As I mentioned elsewhere, I'm not fond of Byron, but the beaches etc are beautiful. Apparently the council makes no apologies for the parking fees and lighthouse fees. I took an out of town friend down earlier in the year and the traffic buildup from the north was terrible. And it was hard to find a parking spot at all, let alone one you didn't have to pay for.
Nevertheless, you have to visit at least once to experience it.
