My wife and I recently visited Roma and discovered that free tours of the gas fields are available thru the Origin Energy office in town. Santos do it also, but not sure how they work it. The Origin tour is a near full day tour with free light lunch thrown in. May bore some people to death, but the 40 or so on our bus found it very interesting and informative. We also found the huge cattle sales yards interesting. Sales are held Tuesdays and Thursdays.
We were surprised how many we spoke to had no idea that the Origin tour was available.
We also had a coal field tour at Blackwater, but at $19 each it was disappointing. Aleast the coal field interperative centre in Blackwater is now open for a gold coin, rather than the $14 or so that originally was required.
People may not know that in Gladstone QLD, that there is a free boat cruise out around Curtis Island to see where the three biggest LGN gas projects in Australia are being built. Morning tea provided. To book a tour phn Gladstone info centre.
I find all that kinda stuff interesting too... better than looking at biased news reports, even though the tours are biased as well hehe. But at least you get to see something first hand and learn a thing or two.
