It's a 2 way street. When the call of nature becomes urgent you head for the first toilet - but there is none. So where do you head? The nearest bush.
I take the rolls for a run and cover my deposits.
There are simply some serious pigs sharing our roads and our country. Even the toilets provided as some camp sites and rest areas are abused to a disgusting degree.
I won't go into details here, but I'm sure you've seen your share of human disgusting behaviour.
Some travellers it seems go to extraodinary lenghts to disgust anyone who follows them. I think it's a social, or anti-social comment.
So, if there were more toilets, long drops or enviro-toilets at rest areas, parking bays or free camps, things may be a little better.
The only thing I can think of to address this is to report these findings to the shire or council responsible, or national parks in the case of the Nullarbor parks and similar ares.
Put some pressure on. Speak up. Do your bit when you do your bit and take the dunny digger and bury your bit.
We can't stop all of it, but we can make an effort to improve it.
I find it's not the truckies, but the backpackers. They use this country for all it's worth travelling cheap while they work, and then they abuse our environment.
Just watch where you step.

.. in the main I'd have to agree with you CG with regard to "sewers' .. but you must be wearing blinkers Chris .. not too many backpackers will drop their oil and leave oil filters strewn about the bush together with tyre casings that no longer carry an rubber .. There are unfortunately elements amongst us all that that do not promote what we appreciate .. lets be realistic !

Is'nt that the truth! We tried to pick up excess rubish at stops when we stoped but drew the line at baby and feminine products.  Have seen some damn dirty truck stops too.

No, I'm not busy, I did it right the first time.

We were staying at Innamincka down on the beautiful Cooper Creek - honesty box camping - no doubt a lot of you know how it works out there. A couple of vehicles pulled in and stayed overnight and went bush next day for a toilet stop/drop - left everything there and toilet paper blowing everywhere - it was absolutely disgusting. We couldn't even sit there and enjoy the wonderful scenery knowing that this was just there. It is people like this that will eventually spoil it for all of us that keep it clean.

Some people whether they be Nomads, b packers, trucks or car travellers are just plain filthy. Women that leave behind personal products, toilet paper strewn round have no pride in themselves or respect. If we keep this behaviour up there won't be any clean areas to camp. Re tyres dumped everywhere, since garbage tips are not taking old tyres I'm not sure where they are to be disposed of. Come on people keep Australia clean.

On our first outing in "George" there was a moment at the end which got my heart racing. The Hat Head National Park has large metal skips for rubbish. We took our garbage there before we left, only to find the skip smouldering, and not far from bursting into flame. Tom threw himself over the edge and grabbed the half burnt plastic pile out of the bin and off the blackened cardboard underneath. Can't believe anyone would be that thoughtless.
Cheers
Helen

Well some of our so called "food" n "waste" would no doubt combust when mixed, seen many fires and subsequent damage start this way.....
