I dont know the area that well, but to me it looks like you would be going back upwards to go through Warwick.Where did you intend crossing to the coast after Warwick?

Original thought was Goondiwindi then the Buxner hwy to Casino then Ballina but someone said the Buxner is steep and twisty.
Spooked me a bit as the bus is pulling some weight and I thought it may be a problem....
Don't know for sure, but the Cunningham way may be an easier drive although it looks like we would end up a fair bit further North (around Beenleigh / Logan).
Checking out maps , google etc., but nothing beats real experience feedback....
When you come over a range from the inland there is going to be climb and then a descend there is no choice but to drive them accordingly.
There is this Mountain range that runs nearly the full length of the east coast. called the Great Dividing Range.
From where you are I would head towards Tenterfield along the Bruxner Highway out of Goondiwindi, there is some great camping along this stretch.
Now the road down from Tenterfield to Casino is fairly good, to practice your skills with your rig. Now if you have no real reason to go to Ballina you can meet up with the coast road at Grafton or into Lismore and come out at Woodburn no hills on these 2 roads, as with Lismore to the Ballina you go up and over.
Warwick to Kyogle is one I would avoid as it's windy and narrow in fact I used it at Easter for a shake down drive to see if I wanted to keep the Discovery I have to pull our van and recorded my worst fuel consumption, the road between Killarney and Woodenbong very rough to say the lest, total shame to our road system. It only receives small amount of maintenance and I don't think it has changed much since the early seventies, it is hard to imagine it was once a main highway from Sydney to Brisbane before the opening of Cunninghams gap in the Sixties.
By the time you get to Sydney you will be getting fairly familiar with your rig and then you will have the big one to go down the M1 past Wollongong providing you are staying to the coast along to Melbourne.
Enjoy your travels, hope this is of some help. The more hills you climb the easier it gets and going down the other side is part of it. Think of it this way it gives the vehicle a chance to cool off and there is always the view.
