Autism is a very broad spectrum, Margaret.

We have a grandaughter who is affected.

Not experts but happy to chat

I like the philosophy of the native American who decided that all such children as having been touched by their Gods and were "Special" people and treated with reverence.

Autisum has many levels... all 3 of my kids have some form of 'learning/social difficulty' and so far 1 grandson and 1 grand-daughter has signs of it..... they just see the world differently

Hi Magraret, my daughter has two boys with Autism. One of them, the oldest is getting a lot better as time has gone on, he's 10 now but his brother who is 8 is a different case altogether. Much harder to manage and is going to be an on going issue for my daughter.

If you wish to PM me I will be able to pass on any info that might help.

Regards

Brian.

My middle daughter was finally diagnosed with Aspergers at the age of 18, she is now 23. Aspergers is a high functioning autism, she has a lot of social problems as well as life skills.

You are not offending anyone by asking questions. If you want to get some information, just ask, we will try and help you.

We have a couple of kids in our family that are affected too.
Seems to me there's more kids being diagnosed as "on the autism spectrum" these days. ???? Is it because theres actually more kids affected, or are they being diagnosed as autistic where once it was thought that they were "retarded", or "just very naughty", or had "ADD"?

our grandson ryan who is now almost 7 years old also has autism /aspergers /adhd ,hes a real handful at times especially for his other
she has him on a gluten free diet it makes a bit difference and he knows now that if he eats anything that isnt he pays the
consequences as he has meltdowns, he bites kate my daughter and kicks her, can be a nasty fellow at times, but when we have him
hes never naughty ,but i must say they are very different little people.

its not easy thats for sure and it realy depends on the spectrum too.
not sure if i can help at all if you need to ask me anything just pm me and my daughter researches this stuff continualy .There is lots of help
out there, ryan goes on special camps with others and they get help from centrelink too as far as i know.

Our girl is a teenager now- stunningly beautiful- but lots of social difficulties. She's intelligent, copes with a mainstream curriculum but not with normal people skills.

She manages with "rules" and has them for most things. Her mum is a hero and manages to be her mother and teacher and support person all in one.

Kate is a gentle soul but gets frustrated with the big world.

She's very special, and we love her.

Autism is a huge spectrum, but if we can help anyone, just ask.
