1988 Toyoat Coaster

Problem is, my partner, Jennie, has a mobile home, as above. The 4 cylinder diesel motor is in good condition, and pulls well. However, the 5 speed g/box, as many of you may know, has a huge road speed gap between 3rd and 4th gear. One can almost reach 50 kph. in 3rd, and almost 90, in 4th. That gap is the problem when in hill country. Does anyone know of any transmission alternatives, such as a 6 speed g/box, or 2 speed diff. to suit. Regards. "Pipes".

My coaster is the petrol variant, and it suffers the same issue. Basically if you are going uphill you need to drop back to 4th or 3rd in some cases. 5th is more for open road cruising. Someone did mention to me once about doing something with the diff? To cure the problem but I never went ahead with it.

A mechanic mate of mine says the best solution would be to drop a V6 into - the 4cyl engine is really not enough for such a big lump of metal.
