FYI, the shell in Norseman is not longer open.

When we crossed in March, we did not worry too much about prices, just topped up at each roadhouse. Better to do that than run out trying to save a few cents per litre.

Hope you have your dollars saved for Esperance, no free camps, and the caravan parks charge a premium

We came over about a month ago and the diesel prices were, Mundrabilla $1.89, Madura $1.98, Caiguna $1.97, Balladonia $1.939. Border Village was over $2 so fill at Eucla instead. Hope you have a safe trip.

I can't help you with the price except to say fuel is not cheap along the Nullabor, but I left Eucla with full tank (100 liters) plus two cans of 20 liters, which took me to Norseman, 725 km, with 1 can of 20 liters to spare. Ceduna will be your last stop for cheaper fuel. Take on all the fuel you can at Ceduna, top up at Eucla. Now a lot depends on what you are driving your fuel tank capacity and your fuel burnoff rate. Ceduna to Norseman is 1230 km. I used 155.33 liters. That gave me a burnoff of 7.91 km/liter or 12.62 liters/100 km. I use Diesel and have an Iveco MH. The run from Norseman to Esperance is around 200 km. Just take on enough fuel at Norseman to get to Esperance. At Esperance, you have a Woolworths Gas Station. Shop at Woolies, keep your fuel dockets.... Have a great trip... biggrin

I have got 215 usable litres in 2 tanks so get good k's with a gentle foot. Planned to top at Port Augutta and then again at Ceduna or I have heard Penong. That is enough to get me to Balladonia for a splash and then Norseman but I will then splash again and give the Woolies at Esperance a look at my card. Thanks for that. Any Port Augutta, Ceduna or Norseman prices?

for those with diesel motor homes, like we had ..

If you have 215 liters usable fuel, you can do Ceduna to Esperance without taking on any fuel if your burnoff does not exceed my figures. If your burnoff is in excess of 12.62 liters/100km, you might need to uplift a few liters at Norseman. Anywhere between Ceduna (Coles Shell Staion) and Esperance is gonna cost you...

If you want to buy at the dearest stations then by all means top up at Balladonia, OR, as I said in the post above yours, do the 'splash' at Mundrabilla.

I guess it depends whether you are just taking the usual 2-3 days to hoot across ... or being a slow tortoise/tourist and taking a bit of time.

When I crossed in 2012, I filled up at each roadhouse (except the WA/SA Border Village coz it was too dear - so filled up at Eucla which is a short skip across the border) because I figured it would "spread the cost per litre" over the whole trip.

We took three weeks to cross the Nullarbor - Ceduna to Norseman ... there's lots to see and spend some time at.

The biggest distance between roadhouses is 185km - between WA/SA Border and the Nullarbor Roadhouse. Otherwise they are between 85km and 125km apart. So you will not run out of fuel, just pay differing prices.

And regarding WA caravan park prices. They just love the grey-headed tourist from the eastern states and charge accordingly. Be prepared to pay premium prices anywhere the 'tourist' loves to be. Get away from the 'tourist areas' and prices are more sensible, the people even more friendly, and the air cleaner/clearer.

WA has a long way to go to catch up with the Rip Off van parks anywhere up the east coast of oz. WA is bargain priced compared to them.

As you said John, travel inland anywhere in oz & get a better deal and meet friendlier folk.

To thank all and clear up a few. Unfortunately our fuel burn is not as low as 12's per 100 more like 15's. Old GQ turboed but our van is heavy, 3000+ kgs. We will fill at Penong and top at Mundrabilla, 11c per litre is a saving. Fortunately we will only need to be in Esperance a short time as I have a job pulling grain starting early October just west of Esperance where I have power, water and main meal provided. Good gig, eh. And, no, we will not be doing a quick flick over the paddock. Intend to take 2 to 3 weeks. Apparently the whale watching season is in full swing and we will do the flight from Nullarbor. Probably the only cp we should need including waiting for our fruit and veg to run out at the border. I'll give a price on the way over for future interest.

Fuel prices change almost weekly across the Nullarbor,as one bloke owns five of the road houses.So there isn't many he dosnt own.

I was lucky or un lucky to meet him one time we were crossing, he told me what he loses at one fuel out let he sure as hell makes up for it at the next one.

Don't be surprised when they ask for your credit card and licence before they will start the pump. Bev went and stood at the counter while I pumped the fuel, they figured that I would not leave without her. Have a great trip.

In a little place in WA called Wiluna, when we called in to the shop/servo to fuel up to head along The Gun Barrel H/ Way, the fuel bowsers had 1 inch chain around them and padlocked. You had to go into the shop and tell them you wanted fuel,then the person followed you out holding a 2Way radio talking to another person inside the shop regarding what fuel we wanted, after the rigormorol of un padlocking the bowser and filling with fuel, and then re locking it all back up,you follow back inside and pay with two people at all times working together.

A few other places around that area have those shields like they have inside the banks for the tells safety.

It really shocked us to think that in out back communities the violence is so bad.

While we did not mind them holding our credit card, we did question the reason. We were told there had been too many bowser runners. Example: Greynomads pull into the pump. She goes to the amenities, He fills the tank. She presumes he has paid, he assumes she has paid. They drive off and neither realise the other has not paid. Apparently it has become an issue.

Neil you obviously haven't stopped in too many parks in WA recently, particularly along the coast. Some of their prices make the east coast prices look like bargains.

In saying the above we are now stopping in a nice little inland WA park at a bargain rate of $100 pw for a powered site.

I think the WA Government site has better information giving todays and tomorrows price for fuel from all WA servos. The search allows you to look in any particular area, region, town or suburb.
