Cost of fixing a generator, Honda vs the world!

Hi,

We all seem to praise Honda generators.  Good.

Question to Honda and non Honda owners.....Cost of your unit....time you have had it......Running time in hrs per/week,month......Cost to fix the Honda, and costy to fix the China brand when it has broken.

Time to settle the myth about Honda Generators...

Lets be honest because its our money at stake!

Sincerely

George.

Well........mine's a 2kva Fuji inverter generator. Bought it after the floods to run the house till the power came back a month later, and since then have been using it for travel. Run about 6hrs/day, 3days/week average. Cost $400 to buy. No idea what repairs will cost as it hasn't needed any smile.

I had a 4.5 kva bought off eBay for $600 delivered to my door. Ran it many times without any problems. Gave it to my daughter when I sold my last motorhome, now have a Honda that they threw in as part of the deal when I got my new motorhome. Haven't used it butim sure it will run fine. My opinion is the one I had was great and never had a problem so for the $600 it was great value. The Honda, well only time will tell.

Honda does do a fair bit of trade on it's long established name. I have a very old one haven't used it in years. Tried to get a replacement wire wound resistor as the original fused out and I couldn't rewind it to get the 240volt point, was told no such part available . I need a Honda tech who is old enough to have seen one like it possibly one that was born pre WW11 may be a help.

The Honda part is only the power plant the actually generator part may not be made by Honda today, could be outsourced like a lot of composite gear. There are so many knock off's that look the same who really knows who's who anymore

Word of advice if buying a genset  have the dealer  operate it on full load , at van shows  and the like they have a habit of operating a set with low load appliances  like  a computer and an LED light set and there's bugger all noise however, load it up with a freezer or water pump and the noise goes off the scale and that's the real comfort test for you and other campers
