8 isnt overly late youre right there Brian, and as I said the only reason it was so late was that we forgot as we cant hear it. But it wouldve been nicer if the person approached us, as now we have no idea who it was. They couldve already departed the scene. It was a rather polite note, although I didnt say that.

Some people think they own these free/ low cost camps, they normally are the ones who over stay the time limit and expect all new comers to abide by THEIR RULES ....Best way to over come this is if this snow dropper of notes shows his hand to doing the drop off of the note is to....Tell him/her to go buy a bad of cement ,take a mouth full and toughen up....Yep turn your radio on full blast or as Dog Lays recommends AC/DC. Maybe the track that has words in that mentions ..It's A Long Way to The Shop If You Want A Sausage Roll.!!!!

There is always some one out there waiting to bugger up your day eh!!!! Camping at Lake Elphinstone, nice spot as I have already said. But the weather is drizzle and overcast, hence no sun for the solar, so we had to have our gennie going, it is a Honda E20 which is relately quite. Seeing as it is so quiet we forgot we had it on until 8pm last night. This morning a note appeared on our car to inform us it is too noisy, instead of coming and seeing us and discussing it, so we have no idea who we are annoying. On looking around it seems they near all have gennies anyway. Beats me.

Love Elphinstone, pity it's not sunny. You are right, would have been better to come and talk to you. Would be an awful feeling not to know who it is from.
There are times when we all use a genny especially when we run out of sun.
You followed accepted ''Etiquette' camp rules, Generally most people will accept gennies until around 9 pm so 8 pm is good,
so don"t let it spoil your day, Most people that need to use gennies are normally considerate, and most others accept them IF used with consideration, !!
However SOME people will not accept gennies at all, But guess what ?? They don't OWN the campspots, and gennies are Legal,
So as long as you are considerate of others, Do as you Do ??
I don't know why campers get so upset about others using generators. I don't have one but I am happy to be parked near one going. Doesn't disturb me, in fact I find it an advantage. First being a solo I'm always pleased to know there is someone nearby and Second the noise competes with the crickets and helps drown out their noise in my head. Makes a nice change to hear something different. lol
Try playing Skyhooks "Why don't you all get" really loud. I don't usually run my genie after 7pm, but WTF, who needs to be asleep at 8pm. And why couldn't they knock on your door and ask politely at the time!!

Oh poop......gypsynolmate.....I was hoping this new world of grey nomading would be free of that stuff........don't feel bad....this definitely isn't your problem....
I love the quiet of free camps, and the sounds of motor bikes, motor boats and generators annoy me.
Now, don't get me wrong, I understand their purpose, and can tolerate them but they hold no pleasure for me, and no benefit.
It's nice when they stop for a while, and we get a bit of a break.
It's also nice when a neighbour comes over and has a conversation before turning a generator on.
Now, from my perspective, I can understand someone getting annoyed if the generator went all day. "Forgetting about it" means an apology is needed, in my book.
"Not hearing it" means you need your hearing checked.
I travel with a genny and will use it if necessary for me. However, I consider others when using it, I will try to shield others from the (little) noise where possible though.
The people that annoy me are those that extend their genny lead to put the unit as far from themselves as possible which can put it closer to other camps and then aim the exhaust away from themselves, usually toward others. Then they have the cheek to say..."my genny is quiet, I can hardly hear it"!
Not saying the OP does this but you do see it often.
Cheers Neil

Accidents, (not deliberate inconsiderate behaviour) happen sometimes....and a bit difficult to apologise if the note was anonymous. Just thinking that anyone who couldn't care less about the consequences of their actions wouldn't be worried and feeling bad...
Cheers
Helen.
The only time I got upset about a generator was in Broome on a nonpowered site in a caravan park we returned to the site for lunch to find a honda 2.0 sitting virtually under our annex.. the campers next to us had gone out for the day and were recharging their batteries and trying to hide the generator (and its noise) from others..
They did appoligise when they returned several hours later and said they only put it there as they assumed we had gone out for the day :(
The worst encounter I ever had with a generator was at Walhalla (Gippsland, Victoria) many years ago. It was the only power supply in the town and helped keep the pubs fridges going. It was a bigun and diesel too. It ran from early in the morning to midnight 7 days a week and it was very hard to get to sleep while it was going. Had two young children back then too, but we just accepted that it was a part of the Walhalla camping experience.
I'm not sure, but have heard that Walhalla now has a dedicated power line running up there. It's a really nice place to check out for those who have never been there.
Aime.
