This visit nearly did not happen as we missed the bus so found another way to get tickets which involved leaving the RV park at Petaluma about 1.5hrs nth of San Francisco at 4.30am and getting in a queue by 6am for tickets. We did this with the vans as we were heading for Los Angeles that day. Got on the first ferry and it was freezing cold and everyone on the ferry had some sort of San Francisco, hoody, jacket jumper as the sun was warm but the wind off the Pacific ocean and the bay was freezing. The 3 days we were there the top of the SF Bridge was covered in fog all day. Alcatraz was worth seeing and the audio tour was very detailed and easy to follow.
I remember you telling us about the delay in getting to Alcatraz. One things for sure though, It was well worth the wait. I love looking through that type of history, sends a shiver up and down your spine and gets the mind wondering off into that time many moons back.
