The farmer was very wise and politically correct to blame a grey nomad.
Blame practically any other group and they would be 'gutted' and sobbing tears while hurling ferocious insults and demanding compensation: "Discrimination!" and "Gimmie Compo NOW!".
Hmm Grey Nomad, ???? could have been ?? but i was not there so NOT every one towing a van is a grey nomad, Just think back to our previous grey nomad years ??? Most of us towed vans way back when we had a full head of hair and it was not grey, -- Also being a Grey Nomad, does not automatically make a person good ??You needed to be of Good character as a person, way before reaching Grey Nomad status !!
But that said I will agree, that whoever did steal that box of tomatoes, Is a Low life !! and we can only hope that he wants them to make a rich tomato sauce // Because he is also going to steal some Seafood to make a Marinara ?? If this is the case, we can only hope that the Seafood is ''OFF'' and he gets a very bad case of food poisoning to teach him a lesson,, -------------------- Sorry to rave on, but i felt like typing ok
I was in the middle of nowhere recently in NSW and surrounded by other nomads. In the morning we were last to leave the site.lo and behold I had no clips on the WDH or the little clip thing to go thru the towball .I was moaning that night at the next park and the guy next to me said that he always removes the said clips cause some of us NOMADS are lousy ba@#$%ds. I would just love to catch them !!!

Westy. Some people I know are like slinkies. They look really funny when you push them downstairs !
What worries me is my stainless steel turnbuckles that act as tie downs for my slide on camper. Imagine waking up or coming back from a walk and discovering my camper unsecured to the truck tray. I was thinking of maybe covering them with a length of hose or something that a potential thief might overlook. It seems you can't leave anything around these days if it's not nailed down.

Yep i take every thing off my hitch ,seen far too many of the bit's and bob's just W A L K . Seen a couple one morning get up and both their push bikes had disappeared from the back of their van while their heads were almost touching them while they slept. I must add they had the bikes chained and padlocked to the bike rack.
I guess if people have competitions between themselves regarding how much toilet paper they can nick from public/c/van parks and also low cost camps it, just goes to show nothing is off limits. ....At one of the Bore Baths in NSW we visited last winter the old guy used to bring bags of wood around and had an honesty box to place your few $s into for the wood...due to people not putting in the few bucks he doesn't do it any more....Just goes to show how one persons honesty is another persons advantage to steal.

Gary, i have seen what you are saying re the hose cover on many vehicles as you have. On my sons Crossover 4x4 camper we are using
this trip has the whole back with sola panels across it and they can be positioned to any angle or degree you want, but if we go fishing or a walk or what ever i always close them back down..thank god they have clamps and locks ,but bolt cutters would just cut the locks off in no time at all...I will be looking at another locking device when we get back home as it really is only there for honest people and they are getting less and less by the day so it appears.
The sad thing is that there could have been 100 honest "grey nomads" who bought tomatos at his stall, and they would not have warranted a mention. But the 1 dishonest one makes headline news (in our humble forum anyway). I know there are b**tar*s out there who would steal from their own grandmother, but you can call me naďve 'cos I still believe that most people are honest.

Did the farmer see who took the tomatoes? If it was somebody with a decent sized fridge in their caravan they could use/cook/freeze a box of tomatoes, or sell/trade them. Some low lifes just nick stuff because its there and they can, they don't need it.
Its sad, there was a time when other travellers could (mostly) be trusted, we could go and leave the tent with stuff outside it and never lost a thing.
As much as we would like to think we are all decent people, decent people do not have a say on who c an be a grey nomad.
There is good and bad in every thing, even travellers.
I bought a few of those plastic covered stainless ropes with loops on the ends from Bunnings. Each night before retiring I loop the rope through the tables and chairs and lock to the van wheel. Also loop one through the bike frame and around the awning arm. So far, touch wood, nothing has been lifted.

Fantastic idea Douglas, I am off to find some tomorrow,as it is a pain in the butt packing all the out side gear away in 4be each night or when we are away from sons camper. When we use our own van most times we have the out side gear stashed under the annex with padlocks on the two doors if we go away from the van.
Was reading a report in caravan news regarding a farmer near Roma qld is up in arms due to a grey nomad stopping at his
little fruit stall beside the road and pinching a whole box of tomatoes .
What in the world would a grey nomad do with a whole box of tomatoes I ask ??
These type are who give the rest of us a bad image.
Herbie,
You ask a good question, what would a grey nomad(999.9999% of whom I feel are totally honest) do with a whole box of tomatoes(what is the weight and amount of tomatoes in a box?)............perhaps I can start, um,er.........perhaps lets start a new thread as to what we can do with a whole box of stolen tomatoes..........perhaps we dont give a s**t about the farmer and move onto the next town.
What do you think?

The only thing I could think of are ...Do they live around Roma or are they going to make bottles of tomato sauce and sell to fellow campers to help with fuel costs along the way..So if you are offered cheap home made tomato sauce ...remember you may be in the poop for receiving stolen goods. ....( just a bit of humour on my part re the last idea )
