This is a reply I just received today, after sending an E-mail to the relevant Council some time ago, after Nomads had been posting about being moved on from sites in the area. "
Hello Gayle Some time ago you emailed Council regarding a lack of RV friendly sites. I apologise that you did not receive a reply - it was my fault - I overlooked your email. The Cassowary Coast has many caravan parks within the area but there are also four free overnight rest stop areas that are used regularly by travellers. We have many self contained travellers staying in our area and I believe that most find the Cassowary Coast a very friendly and welcoming place to visit. We value these visitors and are aware that they make a significant economic contribution to our area. Should you travel to our region in the future, do call in to one of our Visitor Information Centres in Cardwell, Tully, Mission Beach or Innisfail and our friendly staff and volunteers will help you to find camping areas that suit your needs. Kind regards Sheila Lawler Tourism Coordinator Cassowary Coast Regional Council Ph: 4068 2288 Fax: 4068 2858 Mob: 0428 228 962 PO Box 738 TULLY 4854
There is one free camp at Biliyana approx 20ks south of Tully, and another just north of Innisfail.
As for the other two I'm not sure where they are.
Up here at the moment we have people camped in private properties, beside the highway in quarries.
A farmer turned up for work this morning and found 5 vans around the back of his shed on his cane headland.
Some are even staying overnight in the local supermarket car parks.
I'm all for free camping, but some are taking it a bit too far.

Cheers,
Sheba.
Gday...
Like the rest of us, I find 'weasel words' off-putting. But to be fair, read the emphasised words ... I think she did actually assist.
I think it would be better to direct travellers to people who know the area and will give directions, rather than attempt to provide precise directions within an email.
Just my thoughts ...
Cheers - John
