Yep, agree this is one nice stopover for sure. I called in on my way up here (Townsville) but was chockers to the left where vans etc park and empty on the right but it said trucks only so moved on to St Lawrence, also very very nice. I think for memory there was a tourist info on other side of road with a big mango out front.

Doug the big Mango tourist centre is at Bowen , I called at Waverley creek about 11 am and there was lots of room but can change very quickly still a get place for a break if not overnight
There has been a big upgrade to Waverly Creek rest area late last year. The old one was OK but the upgrade has made it really good. The "coffee shed" is a driver reviver station and usually only open on public holidays. This rest area is roughly half way between Rockhampton and Mackay so is well placed as a rest area or overnight stop.

Whenever I see a post like this I look it up on Google Earth, and if it looks interesting I add it to a list I have in the program of "places to check". Then when I've been, if it suits me, I move it to my list of "places to go back to". I tried marking a paper map but it disintegrated after a while. Thanks guys for all the recommendations, keep em coming!
